How did the foreigniggers of /pol/ learn English?

And we know that all the Japan flags are English teachers.
>>
>>128831651
Playing videogames.
Back when I was a kid I was obsessed with rpgs so I grabbed an English-Spanish dictionary and translated word for word of each game I played. When I finished with two or threw I pretty much understood any written English of normal level. The downside of this method is that gave me a strong accent for many years, as I had no idea what spoken English sounded like.

I feel like english is pretty easy to at least get a handle on, since even if you completely butcher spelling, grammar, etc. Most people will still get the gist of what you're saying.
>>
I was Grade 2 when I transferred over and the ESL teacher at the time started by reading books to me. It was one-on-one so I had a lot of help.

That's it though- read, repeat and learn.
>>
>>128834604
It depends what your native tongue is and how far it is from English. Japanese people literally can not speak English unless they've lived abroad. Also Spanish teachers just like to make excuses for lazy Mexicans.
>>
>>128834793
>Japanese people literally can not speak English unless they've lived abroad
On the contrary they got a lot of words from English and foreign origin. So this is a fucking mystery

This, I have no idea where my parents got me all the games in English or if I was just too stupid to change the language but I started learning English through playing English games (Command and Conquer), then excessive internet usage and nowadays I just watch every movie in English and read a lot of classical /lit/erature in English. I feel like my writing in English is impeccable but I still need some practice in speaking it since I never really spoke any English with anybody. I do practise speaking English by repeating what people say in movies and YouTube videos, though.

>>128834604
Proper, essential English is easy. Colloquial is hard as fuck. Advanced stuff is hard too with the variations in pronunciations, synonyms and exceptions based on loanwords, eg. (che)mistry vs (che)mise. At some point, learning English just becomes rote learning.
>>
>>128836146

I think also they don't speak much in the educational system, just translate writing. Told to me by Japanese people who moved here.

>>
>>128836426
Let's face it, english is a better lang to think on. It's better suited for technical matter and objectivism.

Por otro lado el español es mas floreado, we can circle-jerk talking shit, getting nothing done, solo sembrando cizaña. Es más fácil sembrar cizaña en español than in english.

It's because of several reasons.

1. Most nip teachers only study English in University. It was in the news a ton of English teachers scored at the level of a Junior High student.
2. They mostly lecture. Talk about English for 40 minutes. Practice and have fun for 5. Although engineering classes have been the same…
3. English dispatch companies are awful. They don't care about quality. Just keeping the schools happy. Even if it means breaking the law.

Not him, but I tried learning Spanish when I worked at a jail. I had the same trustees working with me for several weeks, and they would tell me the Spanish names for things we used, and a little sentence structure. Unfortunately, to my embarrassment, they were having a running joke. Every word they taught me was really a way to say that I was a fag of some sort. It took me over a month to figure this out, which was when I tried to order food from a waiter at a Mexican restaurant.

They work teachers over the 30 hours a week but use but do some back handed stuff to make it seem like its at 29.5. The government keeps trying to catch them and make them pay healthcare. Thats why interac broke into several smaller companies. To avoid it. Schools also arent allowed to tell the dispatches what to do. Its against the law. Most companies tell the teacher to do it anyways and just keep quiet. If not they just replace the teacher with some other random degree undergrad.

Yeah it can be bad. Most are just idiots who sign a contract and come over. Thats another reason why the English isnt so great at the schools. If you have a head on your shoulders it throws the companies off. My friend ended up having money taken by a large dispatch company and told he owed a 1k bucks on top. I had to help him go over his contract, talk to a lawyer, and record the company lawyer lying in hopes of getting money before they finally cut their shit out.

Early life from cartoons. I had a phase when I was about 5 or 7 when I would refuse to watch anything not animated. Then TV started receiving cartoon network, later jetix, etc. Didn't understand shit at first a but about half a year later of watching it about 2h a day I could understand almost everything and speak almost fluently after 2 more years. 10 y.o. and above came vidya.
Was always top of my class in English lessons in school since 2nd grade when English lessons started. Never actually learnt grammar, everything came naturally. School only expanded my vocabulary a little bit.

It all started with video games, warcraft orcs and humans, homm3 that kind of shit. Eventually I became an Internet Citizen where the main language is English, coupled with playing WoW the first few years. Here I started thinking in English exclusively.

Then the miracle happened, I gained an gf. An English girl, I now had to actually speak more English rather than only listen and/or read. (I rarely spoke on vent/teamspeak etc)

Behind me, in this room dedicated to degeneracy there's 250+ English books and I tend to mix Dutch and English unconsciously. I sometimes look for dutch words in conversations, can't find it and use English and vice versa.
>>
i used to work with guys from all over europe, but mostly polish.

i have witnessed people start working with almost no English except yes/no, hello, thankyou etc. And in a few months be almost completely fluent.

being a native speaker i've never had to learn myself, but it seems English is an easy language to pick but a difficult language to master.

For example, one of my coworkers once asked me "are you driving", and i was sitting there at my desk. Obviously, he meant "do you drive" and said that he had been asked the same question by an english person when he wasn't driving. I had serious trouble explaining the context and why one was correct and one wasn't.
>>
>>128831651
We had it in school. although I never felt like that's where I learned most of it.

>>128832702
It was like this for me as well, if it wasn't for WoW I wouldn't have been nearly as good at understanding and writing English as I am today. I also used to suck dick at actually speaking English, but when I watched youtube and started to talk to myself in English, it developed into something that made me the best in class at talking. I outclassed just about everyone else, because I didn't have an accent, I spoke pretty much like American English, but without that hideous Norwegian take on it.

English is a reduced language to me is like the lite version of something half assed, sometimes falls short but yeah its easier to convey simple messages.

Español es mas romántico, medio marica, tiene 700 tiempos verbales, de los cuales terminamos usando solo 5 como mucho y a veces el mensaje se confunde por la mas mínima palabra fuera de orden.

I can think in french, germans and english but I still think in french most of the time.
Funnily because of /pol/ my english self is much more agressive, racist and vulgar than my french self, while I can't even say a mean thing in german.

The most frustrating thing when you begin to think in english is to not find the french equivalent, especially when it's new terms like "virtue signaling" or "SJW", I mean you can say them in english but the person will most likely not understand them and it sounds pretentious/faggy as hell.

Disagree, english is limited to express nuances and sometimes fall short when it comes to precision abandoning you to ambiguity, you always need considerable context with english.

English is actually one of the most difficult languages to learn. too many of our words look and sound the same but mean totally different things. Our language is so contextual its makes learning sentence structure nigh impossible.

That's the beauty of English. It's a very "poetic" language. We leave a lot of room up to interpretation, and often it can be determined by verbal inflection. However, that verbal inflection is lost when it's written, not spoken.

It's something I enjoy the most about English, having learned Spanish and German. Not really having to consider gender, not having tons of different verb conjugations, and being able to freestyle the language and still get a point across.

An especially useful trait of English is that we can inflect certain words to have entirely different meanings. Particularly when talking about sexual organs. Speaking in euphemisms is not something you see in many other languages.

It's more than just that. A lot of Black English is just omitting several words and using HEAVY implications. They also can't pronounce "th" very well.

For example: "Dey finna go n' gettum sum chicken wings for dey dinna dis night, you gon come?" translates to "They're fixing to go and get themselves some chicken wings for their party tonight. Do you want to come along?"

It's a sentence structure so foreign that a sheltered suburbanite from Northern states wouldn't be able to understand a damn thing the nignogs said.

I was watching english cartoons through a sat tv and my mom thought me to read in english by using books that my grandpa bought in sweden, lybia and qwait where he worked as a road engineer. It was even before elementary school, and when we had english classes I was bored to death because we were doing some basic stuff like "Tom has a ball" "This is a dog, the dog is brown" "Head and shoulders knees and toes". At the same time my mom took me to the movies to watch Alien 3 (yeah, back then there were no age restrictions) and I didn't even had to read the subtitles. Good thing about poland is that in cinemas all movies have subtitles, except maybe kids films.

Simultameously I had to know english to use my computer, back when there were no apications in polish and doing stuff like copying a 4 floppy disc Mortal Kombat 2 in Norton Commander was huge achievement for a nine year old.

Besides english I know some basic german (buying stuff, asking for directions answering some questions) and I'm quite good in russian (although russian and polish are on the same level of similarity as english and spanish)

Now I have a 16 mont old kid and sometimes I let him listen to some english shows or podcasts just to let his ears get to know a different language, but nothing more, because I don't want to make a mess in his head.

WTF, I thought everyone in Europe from a decent EU country just learned English starting in grade school because you all write it so fluently especially considering all the slang, metaphor and historical/cultural references here. It just doesn't seem believable to acquire such fluency in silly ways like translating from video games and movies with a complex language like ours.

I guess I should've been using Duolingo all these years. I first heard of it in 2012, and crapped out because too much effort and I hate spics, but 5 years later I could've been fluent by now and that would really help getting a job.

nah man i used to live in japan for a bit and can speak japanese well enough to pretty much never have to use english and live in a place that gets lots of japanese tourists. he's right. most japanese people can barely say more than a sentence at a time in english and barely understand spoken english. as for the katakana words, they differ from the english equivalents in varying degrees from somewhat to completely. one case being "clipping" where they clip out parts of the word either in the middle or end (eg. fera = fellatio, or eakon = air conditioner). other times, they just use an english syllable of a common word, and use that syllable to mean the intended english word (eg. pantsu = pants = underwear, mafura = muffler = scarf, another less common example: jampaa = jumper = jacket) there are also direct english translations as well, but not its not enough to give anyone a sort of sense of english

Playing untranslated video games and watching subtitled cartoons from a very young age makes you pick up (American) English without much effort. Just think about how effective young minds are in acquiring language, then hearing another language all the time and have it being translated for you at the age you're learning to read. Then be in your teens and have more American content for free on the internet than there is Dutch content available and you get a lot of millenials using English jargon they don't know the Dutch aquivalents for. Since the web became 2.0 and this happened to have a big cultural impact in the US first and Dutch people really look up to the US we now have a lot of internet based trends in food and lifestyle in which US vernacular goes untranslated so our Dutch language skills are actually becoming progressively worse. Nobody my age uses the Dutch word for bacon anymore, hell, the same product with the word 'bacon' on it is sold at a premium from 'ontbijtspek' because idiots don't know it's the same stuff and want to ape Epic Meal Time videos.

I graduated and did research at American universities already, now I'm doing grad school abroad. Look up Abe's long term visa system for qualified workers. In all objectivity, English is the best language humans have ever come up with.
>massive vocabulary
>democratic nature, unconcerned with pretenses/status
>no time wasted on determining whether a table has a dick or a pussy
>lends well to poetry and literature due to quirky pronunciations encouraging creativity and puns
>has a nice slow sound due to all the silent letters (as compared to spanish which has more syllables per word, which gives it a really percussive, turbo speed sound)
>has logical system of prefix/suffix for classical language loanword acquisition and taking on new, useful words on the fly
>try to argue with this, pro tip you can't unless you're on reddit where this would be racist or uncultured
English just lucked out with the right confluence of the native germanic scum blending with the Norman influence, plus the imperialist nature of the English and the global hegemony of the US.

The best LOOKING language is Arabic unfortunately. It's all swords and it's all backwards n sheit

You aren't hearing me. I don't care how it "works," the current system is globalist deracinated kike shit. I'm objecting to how it "works."

You having a problem with people not learning the language is horse shit. Your underlying assumption is that someone can integrate into the culture of they try. They can't. If you replace all of Japan with white people who now and speak Japanese it will not be Japan, just like if you replace white Americans with a bunch of muds it won't be America no matter how well they speak English and worship the constitution.

Globalism is shit and kills cultures. Any gains to be offset by trading 24 year old grad students between internationalist universities is lost by the death of cultures. Look at the US. You are killing Japan, the notion of ethnicities and nations, and are therefore hurting the US as well. Abe, the upper classes, academia, or the Jews being fine with this doesn't change that fact.

I think grammatical errors here are usually due to low effort shitposting style or the user is drunk or high on pills. Despite this it's an amazingly effective language that is very fortunately assigned to the country that happened to take over the world once we became capable of global civilization.

It's impossible to learn the slang, metaphor and historical/cultural references in english class. Remember that english teachers are people who studied english philology and failed to find a job in private companies. At least that was the case when I was attending school.
Also whether you like it or not the school is forcing on you stuff so it's not as atractive to kids as when you slove some problem that you had in FF7 by yourself. It was fun and more rewarding. You're right on the low effort thing, but english foundation is easy as fuck comparing to other languages. For example polish nouns are varied by seven cases:

human, ape
Nominative (there is): człowiek, małpa
Genitive (there's no): człowieka, małpy
Dative (looking at): człowiekowi, małpie
Accusative (I see): człowieka, małpę
Instrumental (with): człowiekiem, małpą
Locative (about): człowieku, małpie
Vocative (I don't even know how to explain it): człowieku, małpo

Finnish people have 15 cases and hungarians 29

My grandparents spoke Polish but didn't teach me shit. I don't know why people let languages die like that, especially since "being Polish" was so important to them. They're really bad as far as Americans who place too much value on their ethnicity despite no real connection to the motherland. That's an early 20th century migrant thing, which is common in non-WASPy cities like Chicago which were really built on those big white imimigration waves.

>I don't know why people let languages die like that
That annoys the fuck out of me. If you speak a language fluently, why wouldn't you go to the minimal effort of teaching it to you kid? Having a second language is a practical, marketable skill. It's just bizarre to me that parents wouldn't want to give their child an advantage by raising them to be bilingual.

My mother studied German in university, to the point where she became fluent in it and lived in Germany for several years. She didn't make the slightest effort to teach it to any of her children. My secondary school taught German, so I sat through six years worth of lessons thinking about what a fucking waste of my time they were given that my mother could have raised me to speak German from birth. Apparently it just never occurred to her. She literally spent more time trying to teach me French than she did one the only second language that she spoke fluently.

Spanish is pretty easy for an English speaker, I just don't care for it because it's too percussive and fast. I'd much rather learn French if I have to pick a romance language. It's more similar to English in terms of low effort. Spanish is too front-of-the-mouth
