All the other radios in that list are complete chink horse shit.

ICF SW-7600GR has AM sync, a very quiet receiver, the only bitch of it is that it doesn't have a proper VFO knob. I keep one in my car, it works great even if you have to punch buttons instead of spinning a nice big knob.

It's the last decent quality short wave radio made in Japan. Of course any short wave radio with SSB will be fine but I'd rather have that one than any of the other ones on the list, and I've played with most every radio on the market (or one of its cousins, many share the same guts these days).

A couple reasons, first is the general crappy nature of the non-Sony options for build quality. Another is their lack of AM sync, a really nice feature. Another big one is that these newer radios are based on relatively cheap radio-in-a-chip designs, whereas the Sony uses a similar architecture but it's almost all analog, which (unless the digital radio has costlier components) allows for a lower noise, less hissy sound.

It's a surprisingly complicated question, and one which is very technical in nature, but the long and short is that the Sony represents a perfected, analog radio architecture which has been around for 35 years. It's easy on the batteries too, compared to newer radios which have to drive a lot more stuff on the board.
