So, for the longest time, a university degree was a highschool degree part 2 - everyone had some sort of post-secondary education and if you didn't...you were relegated to rural retard status.
That's since changed - tuition rates in canuckistan have gone fucking bonkers in the last 15 years - to the extent they're creeping up towards US rates. Making a degree now far too fucking expensive for the return on investment you get.

I started working right after highschool. I'm now a cook on track to be a chef. I don't care about being a chef, but I've learned that titles = more money. And being the minority (white) in a predominantly mexican trade makes me stand out.

I've also learned that working for multi-million/billion dollar companies is the quickest way to climb. Hotels, resorts, cruises and retirement homes are the best places to cook. I just recently left my last job at a retirement home to work at another, bigger home. I'm the highest paid cook to my knowledge, a whole $1/hr above the head cook.

I guess the moral is to start working as early as possible, find out where the money is and work hard while making friends.

At best, it is a stepping stone into the next level of higher education so you can get a real education that will bring job opportunities worthy of your college debt.

At worst, they're a uncompelling bullet point on some college kid's resume who is "Recently graduated and eager to start his career", which just gets tossed onto the stack of other resumes filled with the same people looking for the same thing.
