Incumbents are virtually impossible to unseat unless they're black holes of un-inspiration like Bush I or Carter.

The Democrats would need an absolute rock star in the mold of Obama (which will never happen again in our lifetimes) or record turnout (which never happens because half of liberals descend into infighting instead of voting for their fucking candidate and the other half don't vote) or for the Republican turnout to drop (which will never happen because Trump could literally shit on his fans' faces and they'd ecstatically eat it up and mainstream Republicans would vote for a one-legged dog if they could train it to sign legislation that abolished the estate tax).

Only thing that could change that is if there's a blue wave next year and Trump gets impeached, which is borderline impossible.
