I grew up there and escaped in the 90s. There were two rival crack dealing gangs across Martin Luther King Boulevard from each other. The leader of one gang, I think he was 17 years old, killed the head of the other gang. After the funeral, the 17 year old went to the cemetery and dug the dude up, drove him in his car and placed the dead nigger on his own mother's front porch. That stat table is also a bit misleading, since what counts as "Chicago" is a huge geographic area, with a huge population. The north and west of Chicago bring down the murder rate substantially. Downtown and the South Side are easily as bad as St. Louis and Baltimore.

Governor Greitens is busy handling the floods that have wrecked southern Missouri. I mean, he is a jew, but he's doing better than if Koster had won. Jay Nixon let the state get worse under his city focused plans but all it did was make KC and St. Louis look nice and pretty while their police forces didn't get any benefit from the funds that Nixon pushed through. Greitens will do more when the flood situation is worked on more.

I'm originally from Chicago and one of my best friends grew up with me there but went to SLU for college.

He went from a progressive liberal to a racial realist real quick. His description of why STL is so shitty is because it doesn't segregate like Chicago does. Chicago is pretty safe if you stay north of 18th and East of Kedzie for the most part. But STL can apparently go from fine to complete shit and back again in the span of a few blocks. I'll take half the city being a no-go zone if it means I can live in my nice prodominently white neighborhood and walk at night without fear

When 99% of people say they are from "Saint Louis", they are referring to Saint Louis County which, ironically, does not include the city of Saint Louis.

The City of Saint Louis is independent of Saint Louis County because they didn't want to be subject to the rules of the largely suburban (read: white) outlying cities. It has not boded well for them.
