Can confirm that the church of LDS is harsher on those who leave than on those who never join. Joseph Smith was a huckster whom knew how gullible most people were. He "worked" by claiming to find treasure and perfect locations for wells via a magic crystal given to him by an "angel". He would place the magic crystal inside a top hat, put his face in the top hat, and "search" the ground, which would allow him to see everything.. except for the fact that he could never find anything. He was fined and arrested numerous times for being a charlatan, during one of his stays in jail he swore to a deputy this: "If (((god))) does not wish for such treasures to be found, he will not grant me the vision to find them" or somesuch bullshit. So again, even more bullshit.

Then we go into anecdotes of why all blacks are descendants of this "satan" fellow that all of a sudden showed up and how women are property of men. Basic slavery culture shit.

The entire book of mormon is an awful, disgusting wreck of altered history that smacks of colonialist fervor, which at the time was still quite high in the minds of many. To make the story even more fanciful and slightly more believable, he begins to claim that those now-evil cities were then hidden under the mountain ranges on the East Coast to be turned into lava and used to punish anyone that scorns "the truth of mormon".

Not only this, there are exactly zero mentions of leeches, biting flies, mosquitoes, swamp panthers, alligators, bears, cottonmouth & copperhead snakes, and a host of other things that DID and still do inhabit Missouri.

What they did know is that Daddy Jo had a rapacious appetite for young girls and alcohol. Daddy Jo quickly latched onto this and began showing it off, stating that it was "an essential guide which detailed the cities in the book of mormon". He even wrote an article in the Times and Seasons, his own church rag, confirming that Quirigua which was a ruin found by Stephens was actually what remained of Zarahemla. However, all of these ruins long predate Smith's insane claims by at least 1,000 years.

Every bit of this is, of course, in direct opposition to what the current church apologist dogma and brainwashing "teaches" now. Don't ever debate a mormon with reason, fact, or logic. They are fully indoctrinated to believe that the church and it's prophets know everything and can do no wrong. Dallin H. Oaks said it best:

There are numerous extremely volatile facts that modern mormons know nothing of and are directly lied to on a daily basis.

One of the more disturbing parts of mormonism that began in the 1880's are their semi-professional, zealous murder cultist assassins. In Utah they are called the "Danites" and are solely recruited from the so-called FLDS, the Fundamentalists which are often found in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado. The mormon church PUBLICLY states they do not have any contact with the FLDS, yet financial records have shown that FLDS "missions", essentially feudal slave-farms and small townships that are owned, run, and ruthlessly controlled by members of the main church, receive around 240 million dollars per year circa 2013.
