Czechoslovak army was at the time, better than German one. We had equal rifles, better LMGs, way better tanks, equal planes and great fortification system at border with Germany.

Our anti tank guns could take out German tanks at 2km (but not possible with scopes then). That was even a reason why Germans used Czechoslovak weapons quite a lot (1/3 of German tanks in invasion of France were Czechoslovak). Read something about it.

Buda has always been the richer, calmer part of the city, because of the mountainous terrain, great scenery and the lack of densely populated areas (since it's hard to build high-rise buildings on hills). It also has a historical district because of the castle. Pest also had a historical center, but the urbanistaion during the Austro-Hungarian era destroyed it completely.
Pest is on a plain terrain, so it was easier to build stuff there, which made the city extremely cramped, since they've kept the narrow, historical street structure intact (District VII. population density is 29,681.3 person per km2).
Basically the economic boom turned Pest into a mini-Manhattan with fancy architecture. Big, cramped city = lots of people = more poor people = more slums = higher crime rates.
I'm not saying that Pest is shit, it has it's own beautiful areas (Heroes' Square, Parliament Building, Váci Street, Andrássy Avenue, Palace quarter, etc.), but it also has its shitty areas (Népszínház street, Közvágóhíd, Sorosksár, the former industrial districts, commieblok quarters, etc.).
In short: Buda is the semi-suburban, historical part, while Pest is the metropolitan area filled with party districts. Bot parts has their own charm, personally, I prefer Pest over Buda.
