Our fears are being realised. The Chinese communist party is highly active here, influencing the hundreds and thousands of their citizens we've foolishly allowed to buy property, own businesses and establish themselves in this country.
Is it naivete on Australia's behalf in wanting to offer opportunity and welcome new citizens, or something more insidious?
Probably one of the last team of truly investigative journalists in this country has uncovered the widespread direct influence by Chinese government "officials" on local media, dual nationals, students and our politicians.
Many federal politicians have been tainted by their questionable relationships with organisations affiliated with the Chinese government. The major parties have managed to limit the damage by arguing these are isolated cases and show a lack of judgement by the politicians involved. Top military and intelligence officials are starting to get more and more vocal.
