Russia has no interest in destroying Islam. What interests they have is only limited to their historic claims in the Caucuses which have large Muslim populations much like Russia as a whole has a relatively large Muslim population. Russia is primarily interested in retaking it's "lost" territory of the Baltic states, eastern Poland, eastern Ukraine, the Caucuses, and west to the Carpathian mountains. The purpose of this Russian expansion into these territories is to expand out to geographic barriers where they can "anchor" the Russian military fueled by dwindling demographics.

TLDR; Russia has a distant view of Islam aside from domestic security concerns and has it's eye on larger matters.
