There is no cultural purity in music traditions. Even metal and country have these roots. The problem is the RIAA. It's almost impossible to make a living as a composer unless you sell out. If you sell out, you literally have to make a deal with the devil. It is possible to barely make ends meet playing in cover bands and releasing indie records, but most bars pay shit and prefer karaoke. If you do covers, bars will be like, "no covers, or we'll get sued by RIAA." If you do originals, and aren't already lawyered up, someone will rip off your music. Also EDM is terrible. I compose jazz with original key changes/chord progressions. Drum and Bass is legit.
