Real reason: Green and clean energy are the new focus of the energy industry. That is where the money lies. We are a capitalistic society so we will always follow the money. Big corporations like Exxon already have money invested in green energy and will still invest in them regardless of the Paris accord. However without government assistance small and medium size businesses will have no viable way of getting into green energy and carbon limitation projects. So it will further consolidate power and wealth in large corporations while making sure there is no money or opportunity for smaller competitors.
