I would like to be religious but I was raised non-religiously and I have no living memory of even stepping foot in a church, I never read a single line directly from a single religious book until I was a teenager. It just feels like I'm LARPing and the closest thing to a genuine religious experience was feeling some tingles the first time I listed to Agnus Dei

Read 2 of the Gospels of your choice (Mark's is the oldest) and the book of Acts.
If you can, be at home isolated and do fasting. Read aloud if you can.

Food fasting is the best but you can also fast from the internetz, social media any vices you have.

You should quit any mind altering substances like drugs, alcohol, even coffee if possible and quit things that you indulge in like masturbation, porn, etc. This will bring you closer to God.

Then fast from food, pray (start with formal prayers, reading of Psalms and then do formless prayer), try to hear God, ask Him or Jesus to help you pray and help you understand the Word you're reading.

After that you'll know if you're "called", you'll know if what you're reading in the Bible is truth or not. Bible contains such unaltered truths that it should make you cry. Then it's up to you to muster up courage and effort to live by that what you read and understand.

In my experience being taught religion from youth it actually makes it a bit mundane and you certainly can't comprehend it as a child.

Even Jesus mentions somewhere that he came to teach his way the unbelievers (the Jews in that time that didn't follow/observe the Law, who did non consider themselves to be "good" believers), because those who were believers would not accept his teachings (new wine in old sacks) because they were so set in their old ways already and would attack any think new they'd hear.

So being brought up religious (but not truly believing) I think is not really helpful towards true faith. If religious teaching of children worked the Europe wouldn't be atheistic today.

I'm not Christian (as much as I try believe) but I admire it for being something that ties a community together. What goes wrong with large-scale movement of people is that they have no common beliefs, just look at London yesterday. Religion can bridge these gaps. This is the real red pill.
