My local kiddy mall area at Watt/El Camino out here in Sacramento when to total shit. It use to have a Tower books + Tower Records and then two small size malls across the street. Along with a bunch of normal restaurants.

Now it's Tower books is a dollar store, Tower records is a Goodwill. One mall is gone and now a walmart + a sam club behind it, drawing in white trash like a fucking wick. Other mall just lost it's Macy anchor and all the other main stores. Far end is now a winco grocery store. All restaurants are gone and replace with fast food and of course homeless all over the place as they have started to push into the suburbs now be no one runs them off.

then the final kicker is they built high density low income housing near the Sam's Club.. .

It doesn't help that malls seem to be nigger roaming grounds nowadays. The mall closest to me used to be nice and peaceful 10 years ago. Now when I go there it's full of niggers running around and chimping out. There was even a huge brawl involving 50+ niggers last year.

Gen Xer here: malls were like the Internet back in the 80s, if that makes any sense. It was basically where you came in contact with a lot of culture if you were from the suburbs. I used to love going to the bookstore and seeing art, literature, books about political opinions, etc. It was also where you did a fair amount of socializing, meeting girls from other high schools, etcetera. And they looked really beautiful at the time - the Taubman Centers malls had really interesting architecture for the time and were some of the most beautiful places you'd see in the 70s suburbs.

When people had the option of shopping at their houses, and with the Advent of smartphones could be done anywhere, these huge indoor facilities became highly costly and the management of the malls themselves we're having to up the rent on stores to keep their margins up, when people were no longer spending at the mall the stores closed. The feeble attempt by the developers to combat this? Make outdoor malls, which was stupid because you still end up with the same problem with people being bussed in, but rent is cheaper. But it still wasn't cheap enough to combat online retail, which is the truth death knell to the brick and mortar stores when you look at the numbers.

My high school's, um, xxth reunion was at that bullshit Asian fusion place near the Cheesecake Factory in Montgomery Mall. Hadn't been in most of three decades. Looked okay. But that whole 355 corridor seems to be doing well. Enough rich government employees and their kids from B-CC to Churchill to Seneca Valley and Quince Orchard that the culture is still MoCo.

You go the other way, the 29 corridor is spics flooding up out of downtown Silver Spring displacing the niggers. When Einstein had more spics than niggers, something was way wrong. Same with Blair. You go down to Four Corners where 29 intersects New Hampshire Avenue, you might as well be in an upscale Honduras, and Wheaton is worse.

Tl;dr, fuck Montgomery County, Maryland, it's a multicultural shithole and costs too much.

This - the whole point of malls in the 80s and early 90s was to be a place where shopping and errands could be made fun and enjoyable. Malls weren't full of shit-tier stores selling cheap Chinese crap and nigger knockoffs, there were high-end stores, specialty stores, restaurants, arcades, movie theaters, etc. 20-25 years ago a trip to the mall was a perfectly passable family outing, casual date, or time spent hanging out with friends.
