If this thread can't get to 300 posts on political and philosophy book recommendations alone, then this board should be taken down.

Don't bother with Plato's Republic. I read some of it when we tried that /pol/ bookclub thing, and it's riddled with logical fallacies and false equivalence. Nice for writing style, but if you want a taste of ancient Greek philosophy you can't beat Homer.

For anyone interested in the subject of IQ:
intro:
The Intelligence Paradox
Satoshi Kanazawa
Starts with a great summary of popular misconceptions on IQ, then goes on to list some intersting correlations between IQ and political philosophy, sexuality etc.

>I can't derive philosophy from books which feature the literal paragons of Greek society

Tell me about the philosophy you derived from Iliad/Odyssey

somewhat advanced:
The Neuroscience of Intelligence
Richard J Haier
Much more dry, but a pretty good RECENT book that goes a little more in depth on methods and tests. Also shines a light on recent studies using fMRI to study wtf intelligence is in the brain.
Free To Choose - Milton Friedman
>>128315471
advanced:
Bias in Mental Testing
Arthur R Jensen
Great Book but requires some basic knowledge of statistics and linear algebra to get the full experience. Good relatively brief explanation on factor analysis with plenty of examples. Probably one of the most accessible books on understanding the g-factor.

Everything it means to be a man. The frailty of mortals when pit against the will of the gods; also, no purpose, regardless of how noble, can be achieved without the approval of the gods. Reverence for tradition and wisdom of the elderly. All conflicts favor the ruthless and the cunning. The importance of respect to fellow men and deference to one's host (how the suitors treat Penelope vs. how Odysseus treats the races he encounters.
My favorite fiction author : Cormac McCarthy. Read these books, and watch the movies after. They are pretty good and got through both on my last Afghan deployment.
No county for old men. Shows how sometimes going for something you don't understand can really fuck you up. Very well written. 8/10
The Road. The way this book is written really shows the importance of family and how sacred family is. And how every father/husband's duty is to protect his people. every time I read this book I have to go back and hold my daughters tightly just want to know how much I love them and that I would be willing to do anything to protect them. so help me god if I could be half the father that the man is in this book I would consider myself in my life successful. the way this book is written this how I feel most men think. fragmented thoughts always dreading what could possibly happen to those we love. The scenario of an apocalypse is just a backdrop to this book of the deeper story of man. 10/10.

Looks like egalitarian/marxist bullshit. There's no point in denying it, genes and play a role in who we are and how successful we are in pretty much every area of our lives.

Jensen is available online for free and easily found via google. The other two i wouldn't know. I bought them and they are both very cheap. The Kanazawa book is a very easy read and definitely a recommendation. The other one you'll have to decide for yourself as it is a lot more dry.
