The cost of building a house is through the roof here, every year the regulations on insulation and energy savings get stricter. It's literally impossible to build a house here for under €100k. Meanwhile, my friend in Missouri built a house out of wood for $10k.

Add that to higher taxes on more powerful vehicles (on top of higher insurance), more taxes to pay for green energy, taxes on fuel, plastics, a "recycling" tax you pay when purchasing anything electronic, etc.

So, there's around 50.4 million school aged kids in the US. They're in school for 180 days out of the year. It costed $2.68 to provide each kid lunch. That's a bit over 24 billion per year. Doubling that cost would see it at just a hair below 50 billion.
