No, this is not true. Even back in 1960, if you had a college degree in anything other than STEM, nobody would suck your dick. At best, you'd land any office job you wanted to but nobody got rich working in a cubicle.

I do agree though that back in the day not every tard hard a degree, and so it was worth more to the economy than today

Hey retards. A college degree is worthless if you didn't major in something useful. I majored in Comp. Science and now work at a Big 4 at 21 years of age. I was smart enough to look at what industries were booming and decided to go there. It's not that hard. High GPA in a stem field, volunteer/extracurricular experience, get an internship while at Uni, have good social skills, dress well and you'll get a job.

I am a junior in college with a 55k/yr job + full benefits contract signed. It's not a crazy amount of money, but guaranteed 5-10% performance based raises yearly and I don't live in a high COL area.

55k after taxes is enough for me to rent a studio, and have 2k a month to fuck around with.

Went to apply for entry level positions with training and the responses I've got have essentially been "we're looking for 1-5 years relevant work experience" don't really know how they can expect that straight out of uni. But it's gotten to the point now where I'm genuinely considering just trying to either get official trade training or self learn a trade, cant wait to be told I'm over qualified for that shit. Many were, I could argue there were a lot more opportunities back then for people like that. You could go work in a mine, pipelining, oil rigs, mills etc. The local industry in my town used to hire a lot more people, now it's mostly a handful of engineers who run the equipment needed.

This recent Paris deal was a great example. Absolutely terrible for the American economy, yet they support it because they're dipshits with zero critical thinking skills. These same people would then go on to bitch about taxes and a lack of jobs.
I'm not even sure what to blame at this point, the public school system is an absolute joke that doesn't actually teach anything anymore, nor does it hold students to any real standard. The majority of universities are just indoctrination centers sucking
Idiots dry, with zero applicable skills being taught. Instead of bettering themselves, especially with the ability to learn damn near anything at any time in their hands, they spend their time virtue signaling on social media. As America becomes more "multicultural" the burden on the white man continues to grow, and shoulders can only be so broad.
I guess I'd blame the culture if I had to blame anything. It's become toxic.

Well, what I meant that we may seem to be earning less than our prior generation, but there is no fucking doubt in my mind that we have a helluva a lot more than they ever did. You guys have your eyes SET ON MONEY only, it seems. Those of you complaining about making less might have a stronger point complaining about housing and utilities, but you are a literal sonofabitch if you think they had it better than we did. Not in the least buddy. And unless you are a Japanses military fag, then you have nothing to complain about.
>>
>>128253481
Yes. The 1964 anti-discrimination act ended the "Family Wage". Many employers used to pay men a larger wage because those men had to support a family. Tremendous immigration, women joining the workforce, and employers not being allowed to pay a "Family wage", is the tornado of circumstances that explains why wages are so pathetically low in the richest country in the world.

The 1964 anti-descrimination laws and the 1965 immigration act may very well have screwed America entirely, and my extension all Western-kind. This cannot be understated.

A tip, atleast applicable here, a lot of the time the experience "requirement" is simply used to weed out the trash, or they've already selected a candidate but have to advertise legally. Go in, dress well, have a professional and aesthetic resume, and practice your interview skills.

>>
>>128253481

Yes it is.

However what most of the people who post these things think will solve the problem will only make it worse.

These people will bitch about jobs in one breath then bitch about Trump in the next.

What we are facing is the consequences of NAFTA, mass immigration from the third world, and the removal of the gold standard/constant financial meddling by the fed.

These people think their problems wiol be solved by minimum wage increases, UBI, and Universal healthcare. They lack the vision to see that those solutions are simply treating the symptom and not the disease.
>>
>>128257801
It's entirely possible, if you live within your means. It is a fact that we have it better nowadays. We're focused on money because money is what makes society function, dumbass.

Come back to me saying "money don't matter, at least we have sweet tech the prior generation didn't have" when you're on the street sucking cock, just to be able to afford a burger. You won't be saying "at least we have more things!" then.

Back in the day, you had people leaving their parents' house at the ages of 18-21. Even in the 80's, you could easily rent a flat. Nowadays, good luck doing any of that, at that age with a minimum pay job, seeing as you wouldn't even be able to get a well paying job with a degree in this day and age.

I'm not saying the prior generations had it completely easy. Of course they had to work hard too but the challenges of independent living, jobs and finance are something that have increased with us. The older generation did not exist in a society where a university degree would get you nothing so you'd be forced into a job a McDonald's or some supermarket on the minimum wage, forced to live with your parents still when they would have been moving out around your age with a better job they got just by having a college education.
>>
>>128257866

Well I think the things holding me back right now are -

1) lack of actual applicable experience.

2) came out of uni and started working in a random shop straight away for like 6 months due to recovering from an injury.

3) My interview skills are pretty much an absolute shit show which I'm working on.

Speaking of interviews, I know I'm expected to do a standard interview and a technical one which is supposed to be 1-2 hours long, any insight on what a technical one might involve? I've done technical selection tests and passed those fine, but not a technical interview.
>>

Millennial Norwegian in Spain here.
When in school I was told by my favorite teacher to stay in academia, she literally looked heartbroken when I told her I wasn't planning to, but instead just wanted to become an apprentice in my field of interest.

Left the home at 16, have had employment ever since, except in a shakey half a year period in 2008.
And it's defiantly my work experience everyone cares for. Never needed a diploma to get a job.

But even though I at times was in the top 5% earners of a country, it has been hard to actually save up anything of substantial value. I do own part of an apartment, but it was on a loan that burned me hard and drains me financially. The place was good enough to be a single wageslave in, but now that I'm looking to settle n have kids, it's sadly useless and still not worth the amount i initially paid for it.

There is NO way we could have a comfy lifestyle if my salary alone had to support it... I could never win enough bread for me to give my children the same as my parents gave me. And they were basically train cordinators. While i am a director in an it company.

Bottom line... you don't need a college degree to make it to the top 5%, you need to work hard and really work on your expertise... But being in the top 5% doesn't mean much anymore. Especially not after the crash.

The house prices to wage ratio is off balance. And two working parents can hardly create the same life style as one single one could in 1960.

I haven't actually had that good a look now desu, always kind of expected that getting a job abroad is harder because you need capital already and I'd guess they'd look more for experience since it can be more of a risk with sponsoring.

I've been looking for local stuff first with the intent to move abroad in a few years though.

no, that does not cause stagnation of real wages, gold bug
another thing that does though is the interplay between the tax code and the perpetually rising costs of benefits that are provided in lieu of income, such as health insurance

Technical will be pretty specific for what you're applying for; they're testing the waters so to speak. It really depends on the interviewer, but I've never had them be absolutely anal about it. I've been handed circuit drawings and asked various questions for example. They cared more about how I'd approach an issue and how my thought process worked than if I could quote technical info from memory. They're also going to test your communication skills heavily here, being unable to properly communicate technical knowledge as part of a group is detrimental.
TLDR: don't stress yourself out on knowing every minor technical detail, most questions will be ones that are meant to trip you up, because they already assume you know the basic stuff.

Not when there's big demand, the companies can be very accommodating i they need the people. I know a lot of fresh elec. eng. grads who find lots of opportunities in austria and germany simply because those countries still have huge manufacturing industries and didn't ship it off to china.

That said it's an easy decision for croats to immigrate to austria since it's a more wealthy country, you might find it different since you already live in a wealthy western country but it's definitely an option to consider if the labour market for mech eng is hard in the UK. Don't have a tv in every room, don't have expensive cable, don't buy overpriced shit, cook your meals at home. I know a lot of people who bitch about money, yet go out and get the newest IPhone and spend 150 a month to use it.
I live a lot like my parents did, and how I was raised. I grow/hunt/fish a lot of what I eat. Wife maintains a nearly half acre garden, and is constantly canning and preserving things. I make plenty for her to stay at home, and she makes extra money on the side bringing things to the farmers market and selling to neighbors. The problem people have these days involves always looking at the dollar amount of everything and assuming that's the only way to get it, because they're lazy. People will spend six dollars on a burger, when you can buy two lbs of hamburger for that price. A lot of people who have kids nowadays use formula; an ungodly expensive waste of money.
>>
>>128253481
Yes it is. Back in parents' days, you only needed the grade school diploma (proof that you know how to read/write and basic mathematics) to function in life. You would just walk around some place and ask people at random if they had a job to offer, you would get a job, starting low, then you would go higher in the company over the years. You could go from nothing to the top dog. That was only a generation ago.
Nowadays, even with a master, oh shit nigga, better rev up those burgers because only Mc Donalds is offering a job around here.

I currently get 60k euro pr year, taxes where i live eat away 38%, so i get in 3000ish euro pr month. My apartment is in central oslo, bought at the worst possible time... so i pay 1800 euro for it, (interest most of it... it's.. horrible.)

Leaves me with 1200. Then comes water, Internet insurances and what not. We are down to 800.
After food, it's defiantly not enough to save up for a home before the biological clock of my partner starts complaining.

I earn less than normally now though, since i decided to start a company w some friends.. it seemed like the only way to get ahead is to be an entrepreneur.

I'd normally make more BUT it also meant living abroad and paying almost two rents. (I cant rent out the place for as much as interests are costing me)

So you're starting a new business in Spain if I understand correctly but you're crippled by your costs from your Oslo apartment?

That sucks but it mostly seems to stem from that bad decision of buying that central oslo apartment you don't even live in. How long until you pay that off? You'll probably be doing a lot better and you might even accumulate value if Oslo's real estate market starts booming like a lot of other expensive cities.

Pregnancy, unless it's near the very end, doesn't make a woman a useless vegetable that "eats for two" on the couch. She did it all with my son in the oven the first time, no reason she can't a second time. Obviously I help the further along she gets, but it's incredibly unhealthy for a pregnant woman to sit on her fat ass throughout.

>Men see no purpose in pursuing anything (as the chance of success is so slim compared with previous generations) and are just dropping out of society
Men only want to succeed in the first place because they want women to select them for mating. It's insane how everyone miscalculates male motivation when it's so simple. You can't just ruin their one interest (women) and expect them to continue wageslaving. Men don't feel it's worth it to have a nice car and a nice house unless it leads to having a nice woman too. Without more accessible and stable women men will just play vidya and laugh and shrug when (((society))) begins to worry, which is exactly what they're doing now, even in Japan.

What they aren't told is that college is one of the first potential "investments" they can make in their life, and just like any investment you need to make sure your return is large enough to justify the expenditure. Boomers just told their kids "go to college so you dont flip burgers for your life" but never bothered to tack on "and make sure its something that can actually get you a well paying job in a growing field".

Boomers are to blame for not telling their kids its important to make sure you aren't just wanking off in college, and their kids are to blame for not realizing that they are blowing more money than they have ever seen on something that is supposed to help them make it back and then some.

The majority of which complain and exaggerate to seem like victims and earn pity and attention. They drag their feet and talk forever doing minor tasks. I'm amazed at the amount of women who consider laundry an exhausting all day task, with a washer/dryer.
The kids go outside with her, just like we all did as kids. In the house? Containment within sight when they're really little. Done all this with my first boy who's a little under 2.5 years now. Housework doesn't take long if it's done each day, don't let a mess build up in the first place.
