I was finishing my physics degree. I was home that day since I was feeling sick. I was eating a large bowl of cereal. When I turned on my tv I burst into such laughter that milk got all over my carpet. When I saw the jumpers on live TV, oh my Lord, I was on the floor doubled over with pain from laughter. Plus there is way more information on the internet in comparison to 10 years ago/the information is much more refined. I remember when teachers made fun of wikipedia for being historically inaccurate, but I used wikipedia as a secondary information source/branching off point for a college history course 5 years after this and got high marks on all of my papers.

Only downside about Q2 was the Shotgun or Machinegun, they were pretty superfluous. They could've just went with the SSG and Chain and played it straight. I would've been fine with that, even if they were nerfed a little, its not like you use much else besides the Rail/Rocket later on.

I remember my first (own) computer that came with Windows ME on it had the "Music" sound drivers fucked up on it without any ability to fix it.

So I went without hearing music in Fallout 1 and 2 for about 9 months, though the Sound Effects worked just fine.

(I had the box set FO1 and FO2 so I got them both at the same time)

CD Audio worked just fine because that was a different kind of sound driver.

So my soundtrack to Fallout 1 and 2 guess what it was - Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon.

"Us and Them" and "Any Colour You Like" somehow matched the feel and atmosphere of FO so well I felt like it was memories of some other life I had.

And pic related is somehow still my most favorite video game weapon. Because of just how satisfying it felt in FO1 to get my hands on it for the first time (in the Glow I believe). And manage to haul it along with all the other junk out of that place.

The only thing that is a flat out improvement is TV and home theater. HD is x1000 better than the old CRT TV sets. What we have now is a quantum leap beyond what we had in the early 90's. Both for personal enjoyment and porn needs.

Other than that, the 90's really were the last best decade of the USA. While the general industry plants had died off in the late 70's, we still had substantial service and high end product production jobs. IT/Computer jobs were the future of most of America until they were outsourced badly starting in the 00's.

Nowadays, shitty retail and shitty service jobs are the pinnacle of many parts of America. In conjunction with globalization, it's now become increasingly hard and expensive to even afford the basic things like a home and starting a small family.

Also, the media is also FAR more editorial based. Yes, it has always had an opinion/bias through modern publishing, but it's gone full stop since the adoption of full time TV news stations.

Disagreed. The picture is worse than NTSC in many cases because the broadcasters and cable companies re-compress the stream. Even with a full bandwidth stream you have to sit closer than two screen diagonals to even see the difference between SD and HD with 20/20 vision.

Advertising has become slicker. Corporate tactics as well. People have commodified themselves and many market themselves as a product almost. The average person today is far more self-conscious now than in the past. This is not good because this used to be a problem for neurotic people only. A lot of people are immersed in their phones or blocking out everything while wearing headphones. Staring at the phone wherever they are. Hell, you see families at a restaurant with everyone staring at their smartphone. I often see couples sitting somewhere with both diddling on their phone.

Also, the ubiquity of cameras and the internet does not make for a good combination for natural interaction. It's basically nonstop surveillance. Instead of being on someone's home video, you're on YouTube.

Soon we'll have inescapable facial detection that will make this even worse.
