In other words, the US isn't being 'forced' into anything. In fact, the agreement states that contribution amounts are non-binding by international law.

The other interesting thing to note is that the CO2 targets aren't going to be ratified until 2020. What that means is the effect of the Paris Agreement isn't being felt right now, despite the fact everyone seems to think that industry is about to come roaring back to life. The industry output of the United States is the highest it will be and won't change anytime soon, especially because the Paris Agreement meant that countries would have had to impose federally mandated guidelines that instructs industry to modernize.
