Muh coal is literally a meme. The industry has been in decline since the 80s, but Republicans talked enough bullshit about how coal is somehow the backbone of the American economy, so now they get easy praise whenever they bring it up.
>>

Would you pay 500$ a year to pay for more modern African weapon factories, or Chinese bootleg Tshirts plant that would only release half the toxic shit in the sea instead of all of it?
>>
>>128192016
Your bullshit hypothetical isn't even close to reality.

I would gladly pay $500 a year for more investment clean energy sources like wind, solar, and nuclear.

The entire US coal industry employs fewer people than Arby's

Coal is going the way of the dodo no matter what anyone does anyway. It's a fool's errand to try and bring it back, we should be investing in smarter, future-proof energy, and it sure as shit is not fossil fuels. Nuclear is the future, and I hope Trump isn't gullible enough to think he can make coal viable again.
>>
>>128193640
Yeah but I don't want to so fuck you, pay my share
>>
>>128194865
I totally agree that nuclear is the way to go, if only people weren't so paranoid about it.

Eventually, yes. But gutting coal quickly is not the way to go, and there is still a sizable demand for it. Coal needs a gradual, free market wind down, not a government lead shakedown. The future of the US is in natural gas. Where we SHOULD be going is nuclear but environmentalists (cultists) won't let that happen.

The problem with nuclear is that while the fuel costs are relatively cheap, the upfront capital costs are so high. It costs something like $5 billion to build a nuclear plant, whereas it only costs $800 million to build a natural gas plant.

This still makes fossil fuels cheaper currently if amortize the cost of constructing and maintaining a plant over the lifetime of a plant.

Short sighted as usual. The coal industry relies on transportation workers, but who relies on coal? well the trains move it, the big machines built by caterpillar or others dig and moves it, the energy sector uses it, There are alot of so called unrelated jobs that depend on the coal industry. Think before you post.

>Comparing primary sector business vs tertiary (except breweries/wineries which is secondary)

Jesus christ, please kill yourself
>>
>>128196883

Why should we double down on coal instead of transitioning the transportation and construction and manufacturing sectors to cleaner engergy sources? Is saving 2 cents per KWh really worth fucking up the earth?
>>
>>128193640
You mean you would rather invest in other countries. The Paris agreement doesn't fund clean energy investments in the United States.
>>
>>128194865
Yeah, because replacing a quarter of the US electrical energy source is so o easy.
>>
>>128191624
You must be completely fucking retarded. After Obama completely GUTS the coal industry, you post their small number of remaining employees and go, "See we don't need them; hardly anyone is there!"

Go fuck yourself!
>>
>>128201737
Do you have trouble getting electricity at current levels of coalburning? Why do we need more?
>>
>>128191624
they are all white. the life of one white person is worth it
