Because the military is mostly /ourguys/ we might be provokable. It would be a fight and depend mainly on how much of the military supported them.

If they successfully made terrorists of us, then they might have the needed loyalty. They would have to succeed in convincing enough people we were badguys. They would need to provoke us from a position of power so we did it to ourselves.

Whatever they did to provoke us would have to be bad enough to provoke while being at least gray as to whether they had stepped clearly over the bounds into tyrany.

As long as it's arguably legal, then they will probably have enough support to keep it together by routing out the /badguys/
