Some professors get very defensive when challenged, and are literally the "do as you're told" types. Any course ending in the word "studies" these days is a likely offender in my opinion, along with any religion course where the professor is a practicing member of said religion. I wish I had stats for this, but it's more of an intuition, coupled with the realization that while proofs in the mathematical sense are verifiable, subjective arguments leave far more wiggle room.

I don't disagree with you, and years ago I wouldn't have worried. But that incident with Melissa Click at Missouri University demonstrated that a journalism professor can be almost entirely ignorant about journalism and the 1st Amendment. Since then, I've noticed that these types of professors seem to come out of the woodwork more when conservative speakers are invited onto campuses (understandable since there is a left-wing bias in many colleges). What you describe is probably a good argument in favor of removing tenure, since it can keep bad teachers from being fired unless they really make asses out of themselves in a spectacular fashion.

The reason we have this problem with social sciences and the humanities but not in STEM is precisely that we don't have a purely objective way to look at those subjects (at least currently). Any teacher has personal values that may draw them to a particular perspective more than others, so they all face a conflict of interests to some extent. Granted, leftists tend to value equality above all else, including intellectual honesty and doing their job as a teacher in good faith, so that makes it very hard for them to resist teaching in a biased way, but the problem still stands that it's unclear how to generally determine whether or not someone's personal beliefs will result in biased teaching.
