I know, it's terrifying. Spending more money and increasing the nations indebtedness isn't going to help, the only solution is to Blitz Spirit things for a while and reduce that debt, but most people nowadays would never allow a democratic party to do that because it might affect their holiday plans or some shit, so they'll keep voting for the parties that keep increasing debt because it all looks good in the short term and they can live their materially abundant lives without having to think about the impending doom of a world economic system that is built on fake money and could collapse at any time. It's fucked, mates.

national borrowing is fine within reason. its built on the confidence that a country will continue to create more value in the future thus being able to pay back a certain amount of the debt and continue to borrow more. a nations debt is representative of its value over a few years or even decades, based on the confidence that that value will be produced in that time period. this is why americas debt is so high, there is huge confidence the country will continue to produce value for decades into the future. poor countries find it hard to actually get into trillions of $ in debt because there is no confidence that they can pay it back in value. they can only get into so much debt based on their GDP (value) usally not more than 100% of GDP.

Just enjoy the ride lad, we're witnessing history everyday. I always wondered when I was younger just how the people of Rome could have let their society fall, what could have caused such a catastrophe? Well, we're finding that out ourselves, aren't we? The fall of Rome seems decidedly peaceful compared to what could happen in our time.

national debt is usually somewhere aorund a country GDP. thus the national debt doesn't matter, its just a time factor and buys a bit of cashflow for investment/spending.

say you make £50k a year and need some instant cashflow for a new car. a bank will lend you £50k because it knows you make that much in a year and can easily pay it off including interest payments.
>>
>>128100750
Oh, but you do, I assume? Which head of state are you? You must be a very important person if you know better than most people that spiralling debt is a good thing. Do you think America would remain such a strong player in the world if China and the banks asked for its money back or else? Indebtedness is national weakness. If you're a nationalist you should know this. If you aren't, then I advise you to return to Reddit where you'll get upvotes and even pretty gold passes for advocating more and more governent spending where it's not needed.

And so what happens if that man taking that loan hurts himself in a fall and can't work for the few years? The same applies to a nation. If all that money you borrow can't be paid back because of a slowing down of the economy or an unforseen disaster, then it's going to have to be paid off in taxpayers money, which will inevitably lead to high taxes, and a government that has to heavily tax its common people to pay off the debt its made is not going to be a very popular one at all, which will lead to people leaving the country, and that will lead to an even worse economy, and so it goes on and on until either you go bankrupt or you drastically cut expenditures to pay off those loans. I'd rather have a mediocre existence long-term and survive with no hassle than a really good short-time until I fuck up and am left spent the rest of my life trying to get back to stability. It's not wise to play with the economy and go "it's fine!" as debt gets higher and the ways of paying it back lessen.

the difference is that a personal loan is owed by one person, a nations debt is based on millions of peoples ability to generate GDP year on year based on a track record of stability of generation of GDP.

opinions on what level of national debt a country should operate on varies, but the fact is the UK has been at the leading edge of civilization for centuries and has had various levels of national debt as per %GDP (see graph).

the only problem is if GDP can only be maintain with immigration or other factors that cannot be sustained that would lead to the collapse of democracy and continued advances in technological development (western civilization). which is the precise danger that the UK (and germany for example) faces today with mass net migration.

Britain was the leading world superpower because it won its wars and paid off its debts to the banks without fail afterwards. Look at how it was always reduced during peacetime on the chart. Whenever it needed to borrow money it always had an option to turn to because they spent wisely in peacetime and never let it increase for any lengthy period of time unless in a war. It was a bankers dream.

If Britain had decided to increase it's debt instead of trying to reduce it wheneve it could then maybe she wouldn't have been the global superpower that we all know and love.

I fully agree with your last sentence, which is why I want our countries to borrow less money. It should spend wisely and not become too dependent on foreign capital and investment, on,y spending large amounts to protect itself or fix an imbalance in the economy that cannot be sorted by private enterprise. Debt has to be payed off eventually, the issue is how much there will be to pay and who has to pay it. The higher the debt, the more people are forced to suffer to see that loan repaid.

Apologies for the slow reply, my phone died. I should have followed my own advice and kept a battery surplus!

This prediction seemed really off given the nosedive in support for conservatives, Ruth Davidson and Theresa May the past week or so.

I then looked at their methodology and read "uniform swing" which shows where they're going wrong.

The conservatives are gambling everything on brexit. They're hoping to make their lead stronger by swinging UKIP voters to conservative which will give them large benefits in the FPTP system especially if the left parties leech off each other like they've done in previous years.

The problem, however, becomes clear when you simply look at how that went in Scotland's council elections. Conservatives cannibalized labour supporters who are opposed to Scottish independence or a referendum while SNP increased their share.

This means that the conservatives will leeching from the main competition against the SNP except in a few urban areas down south and in the north east.

It is very much unknown whether or not the conservatives will gain a few seats in Scotland or inadvertently give SNP total dominance as they can now play into swinging labour voters to "stop the conservatives".

I would personally say that the conservatives are at a point where their continued majority of government will be a coin flip depending on how votes swing within each district. But I honestly am starting to believe that this may be their swan song if they fail to secure a LD/Con coalition.

Nah, TBF the farmers and middle class vote Tory (usually win too) and the working class mostly vote Labour traditionally. UKIP has only been popular because of the huge level of immigration in Boston. Winning Brexit was a huge deal but for most it's back to the status quo this election, especially as both of those will carry out brexit to a greater or lesser extent.

Mi5 infiltrated them and tore them apart, I voted for them in 2009 and they won and MEP seat where I live which I was very happy about.

One of, if not the worst thing about reddit is the upvote/downvote system. When a post has a high score, you subconsciously treat that post with a higher regard than lower ones, even if you don't intend to. That's why it's such an echo chamber. A post with a high score will keep earning points because people see that number above the rest and think "oh boy, that post has more merit than the other ones, I'll post something similar in future to get more points too" and the inverse is true for downvoted comments.

The good thing about 4chan is that every comment has the same worth as every other in the thread, no matter what. Because people can't upvote or downvote it, you have to make your own mind up as to how you will approach the post, rather than let an arbitrary like or dislike system colour your judgement of it before you have even read it.

Also I like being able to call people nasty names on here, that's always a plus.

Hey, I'm Scottish, I don't need convincing that the BBC are biased.

I'd never consider voting for Scottish Labour given the train wreck that is Kezia Dugdale who actually took a vacation from her job to campaign for Hillary. But, the labour party has published a genuinely good manifesto and I would consider voting for them if I was down south despite how much of a mess Corbyn has been. He's nothing compared to how bad Theresa May is, she hides it better, but if you genuinely pay attention to politics you realise how reactive and unprepared she is for almost everything.

She seems to be convinced that she can win an election on the back of brexit alone despite every party, even the SNP, agreeing to carry out the mandate. And thus they've taken the opportunity to try and push through a manifesto that has some of the worst policies I've ever seen with the most obvious one being their attack on the internet which is really only possible due to brexit since the EU courts ruled against such things.

But the BBC showcases bias all the time, in my opinion. Alison Fuller-Pedley was given a slap for filling QT audiences with EDL / Britain First members.

Regardless, if the conservatives win this election I am going to bet that it will be the last election in a long time that they will win. And if they fail then I would hedge that they'll be on the out since their assault on public services down south has been one of the prime motivators I regret voting no in the 2014 referendum.

If it continues, Scotland will almost certainly become an independent country and that's why I want Labour to win.

National Action were banned.

Tbf though, back in the 90s the right were a lot more active, Copeland for example who seems to be the terror attack that the left forgets about.

Still, the fact that they don't seem to be destroying groups like Antifa and HopeNotHate.

Maybe the right wing groups just aren't as smart or organised.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about if you think Labour have a good manifesto, the costings don't add up and the stealth taxes like the garden tax will ruin lives for many people.

A PM doesn't have to be a good debater infront of a live audience she needs to be a good worker behind the scenes which May is. All her interactions with the EU so far have been very positive for us which is a surprise since as she wanted Remain.

Carry on voting SNP pal, Scotland are irrelevant now when it comes to UK politics as practically all seats are SNP yet they will never be in power.

If Labour get BTFO this election and Corbyn refuses to go the left will not be in power for a generation. They will fracture into more parties further splitting the leftist vote whereas the Tories will be the only right wing choice left with UKIP gone.

You know I said I voted no, right?

>A PM doesn't have to be a good debater infront of a live audience she needs to be a good worker behind the scenes which May is.

She's achieved fuck all. Please link me anything she has achieved since becoming prime minister or starting the EU negotiators.

I followed the negotiations quite closely and she's always been reactive. The EU negotiators said that they want a hard brexit and the next day she then decided to reveal her plan was a hard brexit as if the events were unrelated.

And it's been the same throughout the entire process. She's not a good planner, there's no clarity in how she hopes to achieve her goals when the stance of the EU runs contrary to them and in comparison to the conservative manifesto, the labour manifesto is a social democrats wet dream while hers is a neo liberal conservative autocratic wet dream.

If you genuinely think that such policies are good for our country with increased austerity when the original paper it was based on was disproven and shown to be based on an excel spreadsheet error and every other country that has since abandoned austerity has lead to propserity then you are a moron and thus it's no surprise you support May.

So assuming there's anything close to an opposition in 2022, this might end up being their downfall

They're getting away with it this time because the alternative is Corbyn and UKIP are dead

>>
>>128114487

The EU negotiations are behind the scenes dummy, hence why the leaks show how pissed the EU are that she is holding her ground and not caving.

There is no austerity in Britain we still have a huge budget deficit, the Tories are social democrats at this stage in terms of their domestic policies and Labour are down right cultural marxists with free stuff added in.
>>
>>128114638
Because immigration is the hottest topic

They could make excuses this time around based on the EU and freedom of movement, but there's no excuse now
>>
>>128114788
So who is the other party people vote for to show their disapproval of the Tories breaking their promise (again)? Labour? Liberal Democrats?

>>128114687
I see your point, but I was talking more about demonstrations. I should have been more specific, sorry.
>>
>>128114988
How do I know who will be around in 2022?
>>
>>128114769
>we still have a huge budget deficit
And we will continue to do so, because everything is getting more expensive, taxes are going up, and the economy will continue to get worse.

All the Tories want to do is continue selling everything off and making their buddies rich and then bounce elsewhere once the whole system goes pop.
>>
>>128115057
Well apparently you know what people's voting intentions will be when the Tories don't lower immigration, so surely you'd have at least some idea who the vote will go to? If you don't what are you basing your idea on?
>>
>>128114769
Actually the EU negotiators have been pretty public. I'm guessing you only read news that suits your bias.

They only want to achieve a few things in the negotiations, which they announced last year.

They stated that they want the UK to pay its tab, to settle any issues with the Irish border, the status of EU and UK citizens and the cessation of Britain's membership for a "clean brexit".

Their stance is quite simple. A proper cutting of ties between Britain and Europe and it makes sense if you read the opinions by those on the EU side where they believe in the EU project and believed that the UK for a long time has been a problem child in bringing it to fruition.

I don't even care about brexit since it's an old debate where the outcome is clearly known. Theresa May flying around the world trying to find a new free trade deal doesn't fill me with confidence but I have 2 masters degrees so I got no reason to worry about it personally since I can jump ship if shit hits the fan, especially if the EU gets its way and unilaterally offers UK citizens EU citizenship.

The rest is moronic. No austerity when the conservatives are consistently cutting any welfare to the point where the NHS is in crisis and people are dependent on foodbanks? There are studies that have shown the conservatives taxation policies coupled with cuts to public services is making the defecit worse and continuing to pretend the country is broke that it can't afford to run a deficit when every country runs one helps nae cunt.

But, vote conservative. I'm sure it'll show those cultural marxists who is boss (it won't).
>>
>>128115123

Complete rubbish, the Tories have lowered taxes it is Labour that will increase them, which will result in lower tax revenue as is always the case.
>>
>>128115300

Oh give me a fucking break the only reason people use food banks is because under Labour the regulations meant it was so hard to set one up so the Tories made it easier.

The welfare is not being cut it has a more rigorous testing procedure that is all, you'd be surprised how many people got on DLA.

We don't have a "tab" to pay, £100 billion tab, that's not much less than the total amount we have paid in since the 70s. Complete utter trash and the EU have realised that that will not be accepted and are reducing it to £50 billion but that won't be accepted either.

Maybe that's why we're not making any ground on the deficit then.

Really the best thing to do is to increase the amount of tax on PAYE since they have no choice but to pay it and still need a full-time wage.

Big promises they do and the EU want a hard Brexit too as they are too proud to give anything else and they know if they gave a soft Brexit other countries would see that it is advantageous to leave too.

Good luck getting invited to a new party when you dine and dash from the last one.

You do confirm what I thought was the case though. Conservatives and their voters really are morons.

I do hope you enjoy the next 10 years. Part of me wants the UK to steer clear of this path, but the more malicious side of me really just wants to watch it burn and see the ultra right-wing neo liberals like yourself get proven wrong.

It's going to be a fun ride.
