Paris Agreement was a international treaty that requires no ratification by Congress. Foreign relation treaties are completely up to to Executive Branch. No one shit on Carter for what he did at Camp David. No one shit on Reagan for Egypt. etc. etc. by saying it violated the Constitution.

Why is China getting money? They're one the largest economies.

Brazil & Russia, I can see. They are developing nations. However doesn't everyone hate Russia? Giving money to Russians would just have the media attack Trump more.

India? Again one the largest economies, why would they get money? They should stop raping & invest infrastructure.

>Middle East countries

Haha. Why the fuck they receiving money? They're loaded with oil. They're rolling in the money. Even with oil prices down.

>Iran

Yes let's give money to another country that hates the west. Might as well be paying for ISIS.

Wait we're already doing that.

>North Korea

Why would we give money to a country that threatens to blow up everything with nukes?

> what is game theory

Do you not understand how hard it is to get the entire globe to agree to do something about a problem? Exiting as this point just paints as a pariah. This isn't the mid 1990s, the US's actual clout is not what it used to be, we won't get away with this without consequences.

The treaty has frameworks in place for everybody (including developing countries) to step up their contributions as time went on which would become politically easier as the consequences of our CO2 emissions begin to become clearer over the next fifteen years (at current rates we could see a blue ocean even in the arctic as soon as 2020).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with paying off countries like China and India in order to agree them to get their emissions under control (which they are already doing anyway, because it's also in their best interest).

They want to industrialize, we all want to not destabilize civilization. Pollution has costs. Consider the transfer payments reparations for the damage we caused to the collective environment before we understood what we were doing.

The USA is truly the most moronic country on the planet.

Because it's also in their best interest to reduce carbon emissions? You do realize the Chinese actually live in the same planet as us right?

The Shanghai mega region (which has 30 million people) would be completely lost in the event of even moderate sea level rise. That's basically all of China's NYC tri-state area going underwater.

China cheating is a meme spread by Americans like >>128105581 who have 1) never been to China and 2) can't handle the fact that China is nowadays a more successful and better run country than the USA.

Electric cars and bikes are everywhere in China, they have criss crossed their country with high speed rail, nuclear power is the fastest growing electricity source, they are leaders in renewable R&D etc.

For the record, I'm firmly in the camp that we are FUCKED already regardless of what we do because I don't believe it is physically possible at all to stay below 2 degrees celsius (which means billions of people are doomed) but if we can't even keep ourselves from running above 3, or god forbid 4 degrees, then honestly, I will dare say that it's GAME OVER MAN barring some literal magic deus ex machina event (AI/Fusion/Operation Dark Storm/covering the ocean in genetically modified super algae).

>>
Interestingly enough, the most environmentally friendly thing the US can do is to reclamation its manufacturing and production which would severely reduce the amount of pollution from India and China (and thereby globally) both due to the US's stricter environmental laws and the reduced ocean and aerial freight shipping..

China will not change. They are not required to, nor do they show any real interest in doing so. They have, I believe 10 years give or take to increase emissions, but there are no real consequences other than stemming the tide of free money and cutting them off.

You could impose trade sanctions I suppose, but China was decently off before its markets were exposed to the west and the west loves it's cheap goods and China loves the wests resources and you're not going to go to war because they go over a smokestack quota.

The entire agreement has no teeth and in the end does very little to actually change anything. It is a hollow and meaningless thing.

But rather than try to come up with a better solution or way of doing things, people just scoff and turn their noses up that someone would dare deny their golden calf tribute.

Steps need to be taken certainly, however this will do nothing of the sort. I hope though that I end up eating crow.

>China can't wait to be handed the crown on global leadership

Start learning Mandarin, then. A Chinese hegemony assumes that Chinese media, language, culture, etc will become the dominant world culture. One hundred years down the line, after you have worked your two hundredth 14 hour day on end without a day off and finished your fine meal of orange dog meat with rice, you'll turn on your television. Chinese state media will be airing a documentary about what the Western World was like ages ago under American influence. It had democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of expression and worker's rights. Everyone will believe that it is a fictional tale because such a utopia is unfathomable in current year.

It's painful listening to nitwits make the most baseless claims on factual topics. Too many people voice opinions on things they know nothing about. And the more ignorant they are, the more opinions they have.

China and India are actually among the biggest victims of climate change, which is why they're pushing solar and other forms of renewable like no tomorrow. Sea levels are rising and leaving many homeless and poor, majority of the water in china is polluted and undrinkable and even the billionaires there have hard time avoiding all the air-pollution.

Considering how big of a country China is, it's actually amazing how fast they're implementing some of these changes and really progressing. United States is a joke in comparison.

They are doing this because the West/Middle East has a monopoly on oil. China and other competitors are trying to collapse the petrodollar which will destroy our economy; being a nation that is immune to such a collapse, however, will emerge as a dominant economic force. I'm drunk, but even I realize this:

http://www.investopedia.com/articles/forex/072915/how-petrodollars-affect-us-dollar.asp

>Since the most sought after commodity in the world--oil--is priced in U.S. dollars, the petrodollar helped elevated the greenback as the world's dominant currency. In fact, according to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) triennial survey, 87 percent of all foreign exchanges deals initiated in April 2013, involved the USD on one side. With this status, the U.S. dollar was able to enjoy, what some have asserted to be an "exorbitant privilege" of perpetually financing its current account deficit by issuing dollar denominated assets at very low rates of interest, as well as, becoming a global economic hegemony.

The democrats have attempted to combat this with their green energy initiate, but it is too little, too late so to speak.

>Do you not understand how hard it is to get the entire globe to agree to do something about a problem?
You mean like eradicating smallpox? Or do you mean do things that make them all worse off in hopes of being better off a hundred years down the line? Now that one's not going to work.

>Exiting as this point just paints as a pariah.
To whom, exactly? Everyone hates the U.S. already, because it unilaterally does whatever it wants and then forces client states to support those actions in order justify them.

>The treaty
Was never ratified by the Senate and thus irrelevant.

>There is absolutely nothing wrong with paying off countries like China and India

Besides China being massively corrupt oligarchy run by people constantly looking for avenues to shift their wealth outside of China?

>Consider the transfer payments reparations for the damage we caused
No thanks.

>The USA is truly the most moronic country on the planet.

So you're a bunch of refugee supporters?

No, seriously. With the Syrian clusterfuck, I see time and time again the argument that camps should be set up in and around Syria and that we Westerners should just pay aid to the camps to keep the refugees out. Fine, I agree with that.

But when it comes to the topic of spending money on an international climate change fund, which would do pretty much the same exact thing, people are gung ho about killing it? That's inconsistent, because it's almost like you want countless Ecuadoreans and Nicaraguans fleeing their 120 degree shithole and coming to the USA in droves. Or 120 degree shithole Algerians and Turks, take your pick. Or whatever islands get drowned by rising ocean levels. You're basically asking for a shitton of refugees to arrive on your shores instead of acutely localizing the problem (the reverse of the Syrian camp argument).

>inb4 "lol we'll just shoot them all"
like that happened the first time for Syria. bleeding hearts will let climate refugees into your country and there's nothing you dickless internet warriors will do about it.

>At a 2009 climate change summit meeting in Copenhagen, Hillary Rodham Clinton, then the secretary of state, pledged that by 2020 the United States would help mobilize $100 billion, through a combination of public aid and private investments, to flow annually from rich countries to help the poor economies deal with climate change.

$100b total, by 2020.

okay brainlet, let me put it into words you can understand. Despite China has a communist party in charge, policies made by the party, interests and political views of the party members are still conflicted. I've read China related thread here for some time now, and I know /pol/acks, especially most american posters view on China, you can go ahead and say /pol/ is a board that has different point of view on China ignoring the fact many of them are quite out of touch regarding reality in China other than headlines they read on MSM and a few cherrypicked pics and vids spammed on this board
