Why does America have such a high rate of recidivism?

Everyone has high rates of recidivism.
The dirty secret is rehabilitation of prisoners doesn't work.
It's such an obviously good idea that if it did work then everybody would do it.

Why do most countries with a focus on rehabilitation have much lower recidivism?

Both of the last two try to rehabilitate prisoners. Night and day difference there! Couldn't possibly be due to any other factors?

Read the literature on rehab programs. If you can come up with something that works reliably you will not only be famous but rich. People will be lining up to hear the secret.

What if, instead of locking prisoners up, we just beat them within an inch of their life?

We do not have a high rates of Recidivism, we do have high rates of jailing folks.

This is why we have lower property crimes rates then many nations. moreso when you exclude blacks.

The fact remains many different countries want and try to rehabilitate prisoners. It's costly to imprison people and creates new victims. That is why rehabilitation is a good idea. The problem is how.
