He was also reminding evangelicals why to back him in the midst of pussygate, which was targeted directly at social conservatives.

Long story short, the view that conservatives need to just concede defeat on X issue (abortion, fags, trannies, illegal aliens, rapefugees) because they're on the wrong side of history and once they drop it THEN they'll finally be able to sell sensible tax reform to the American center, is actually just an argument of subversion, defeatism, and inexorable decline.

Trump has demonstrated that wedge issues work both ways, and there is no such thing as "the wrong side of history"
