https://www.salon.com/2017/05/31/why-did-these-germans-build-a-literal-pipeline-for-their-beer_partner/

Why did these Germans build a literal pipeline for their beer?
It's for the biggest music festival in the world.

Organizers for the world’s biggest metal festival expect metal heads to consume so much beer they’re constructing a beer pipeline. The underground pipeline will be seven kilometers long and funnel 400,000 liters of beer to the festival. It will hold enough pressure to pump six beers in six seconds. To anyone who stood in line for a beer at concert, this will sound like a godsend.

The ideas of marxism probably influenced Orwell when he wrote that books, however Orwell is not a economist or political philosopher, the marxism itself wasn't discussed (or portrayed) in the book at all. Again, there are a plenty of marxist-bashing literature out there. So why praise 1984?

I honestly don't know.

None of their allusions to 1984 regarding Trump really work, and it's the modern left (and obviously the historical left) that so closely mirror the themes of the book.

I mean, their adherence to language policing and mutilation is actually more pronounced and bizarre than Orwell's fiction.

I thought they'd be more inclined to go with Idiocracy which is much closer to Trump's America.

1984 is more like Merkel or Macron's Europe.

If it was truly the harbinger of the destruction of civilization, I think we'd be seeing more earnest action towards mitigating it. The Paris Accord basically amounts to a giant sin-tax that won't get much of anything accomplished. It's problematic no doubt, but it'll manifest itself in the ways of refugee crises, agricultural disruptions, and population displacements.
>>
>>127991626
Frederick Engels (1880) - Socialism, Utopian and Scientific
>"State interference in social relations becomes, in one domain after another, superfluous, and then dies out of itself; the government of persons is replaced by the administration of things, and by the conduct of processes of production. The State is not "abolished". It dies out...Socialized production upon a predetermined plan becomes henceforth possible. The development of production makes the existence of different classes of society thenceforth an anachronism. In proportion as anarchy in social production vanishes, the political authority of the State dies out. Man, at last the master of his own form of social organization, becomes at the same time the lord over Nature, his own master—free.

>where is the motivation
They're proposing a 4 trillion dollar worldwide carbon tax, look up how they plan to spend it. They want more infrastructure in third world countries so they can have more cheap labor. It's always about cheap labor.

"Developing countries" don't have to follow regulation of the Paris Agreement, and are instead paid to have infrastructure and "development" (not even green development) by the developed countries.

The Paris Agreement considers China a developing country.

Yes, that's correct, the Paris Agreement does not make China pollute less, it instead makes Europe, USA, and Japan pay for China to setup outsourcing factories.
>>
>>127991897
you would think that, wouldn't you.
its the tragedy of the commons. no one state can stop the damage on its own, so there isn't much benefit in unilaterally lowering emissions - but there is an immediately apparent economic downside.
nobody wants to shoot themselves in the foot in international competition. its a game of chicken.
meanwhile powerful lobbies within every major polluter are pumping millions of dollars into asking their government to pretty please let us keep polluting, look at all the money we'll provide to your constitutents
that money is immediate, while the money lost to flooding, crop failure, biosphere collapse, drought, refugee flows is impossible to quantify and attribute, and dispersed across the globe.
its painfully difficult to get even a few major powers to agree to anything, and we need pretty much the whole world for this. So here we are. It's easiest to just put your hands over your eyes and pretend it isn't happening.

Projection. The Left is guilty of everything it accuses everyone else of.

The Left itself is 1984, so they need to hijack 1984 and make it about their opposition, which is the Right, or even even anyone in the center.

Another example: The Handmaid's Tale. It's a dystopian future in which Conservative Christians institute a police state and make women breeding stock. But this does not describe the Right or Christianity, rather it perfectly describes Islam. But Islam is the Left's latest pet project you see, so they're made out to be victims.

I'm saying the very people who want to be on a watchlist due to their unlimited narcissism are the least likely to end up on an important one. God I hate this meme.

People will take their soma while the government shoves more cameras up their ass. Both, on the physical level, have come to pass.

What's more destructive about the world in 1984 is that the language itself is perverted to the point where people can no longer accurately describe their full range of emotions, and the human soul itself has been subdued. But the sinister truth in Orwell's story is that the people themselves are incapable of recognizing this sad fact.

Of course, a similar thing happens in Brave New World, but the language still exists to describe it, and warn others of it. They just won't listen. In Orwell's story, not even those who want to rebel have the means to do so.

The book has been largely appropriated by the right criticising totalitarian strategy used by the left.
However it could potentially be also appopriated by the left criticising the right for using scapegoats like the Jews or muslims which sometimes is similiar to Two Minutes of Hate.
But honestly the left has Two Minutes of Hate sessions directed at white males even even more often than /pol/ expresses anti-semitism.
>>
>>128008395
>in Orwell's story is that the people themselves are incapable of recognizing this sad fact.
More like they can't accept the responsibility they have, at the end it's their choices that led to it.
>Of course, a similar thing happens in Brave New World, but the language still exists to describe it, and warn others of it.
In a brave new worlds, words have lost meanings.

I think both are happening right now to some degree.
>>

>>
>>128009584
>In a brave new worlds, words have lost meanings.

No, it is just that apathy have overtaken most people to not care about their meanings. The meanings still exist to those few who care.

However, in 1984, the meanings of words don't just fade to apathy. They are completely destroyed and reborn as some hybrid between meaning and nothingness. Consider for example, the left's redefinition of racism to mean "oppression + power." To them, the "old meaning" of racism, which is just prejudice based on race, no longer exists. And so, in time, that ideas is no longer expressible in the language. So people stop thinking it, and the powers that be have eradicated a troublesome (to them) idea.

This is Orwell's insight: that to control ideas, one needs only control the language. Even Mond had books in BNW, which still had their linguistic merit. In 1984, newspeak had destroyed the ideas from oldspeak. It's exactly what the left is doing today, trying to redefine common words like "man/woman" or "racism" or "prejudice" all for their political totalitarian gain.

There are 4 books that when read in order fully explains the dystopian nightmare we are in today.

1. That Hideous Strength by CS Lewis

>Early stage dystopia. Who created this mess, why and how.

2. Brave New World

>Middle stages. The soft tyranny of pleasure.

1984

>Terminal stage dystopia. The hard tyranny.

4. Confessions of an Economic Hitman

>Supplemental reading to understand the comingling of business and politics.

Leaving even one out of this canonical list and the picture is incomplete.

Orwell was an old school socialist but hated communism. The average leftist is Brian Griffin - pretentious, not so bright douche bags who develop peripheral knowledge of subjects and try to pass themselves off as experts. They tend to know the Cliffsnotes versions of books. They think Big Brother was a man and don't realize BB was the personification of an entity and specifically a totalitarian, deep state type entity that wanted to exert total control over citizens to the point of sheer thought control. BB was the modern left - hate speech laws, IRS targeting, CIA hacking the Senate, bake my gay cake at the point of a government gun, shouting down speakers with whom they disagree, etc...

The Resistance is too stupid & lacking self-awareness to realize they are the brown shirts fighting protect a grossly incompetent & tyrannical government that was expanded during the Obama years & even weaponized against citizens. HRC was to be the natural, billionaire funded successor of that uber-deep state & Trump interrupted the hand off & that's why the deep state is so angry & lashing out. The left are the thugs fighting for an elite sponsored deep state to resume its rise to total control. And to think these ANTIFA dopes think they are a radical counter culture...lol.

He was even in favor of violent opposition to fascist movements, meaning that he would support Antifa.

"I am well aware that it is now the fashion to deny that Socialism has anything to do with equality. In every country in the world a huge tribe of party-hacks and sleek little professors are busy 'proving' that Socialism means no more than a planned state-capitalism with the grab-motive left intact. But fortunately there also exists a vision of Socialism quite different from this. The thing that attracts ordinary men to Socialism and makes them willing to risk their skins for it, the 'mystique' of Socialism, is the idea of equality; to the vast majority of people Socialism means a classless society, or it means nothing at all. And it was here that those few months in the militia were valuable to me. For the Spanish militias, while they lasted, were a sort of microcosm of a classless society. In that community where no one was on the make, where there was a shortage of everything but no privilege and no boot-licking, one got, perhaps, a crude forecast of what the opening stages of Socialism might be like. And, after all, instead of disillusioning me it deeply attracted me. The effect was to make my desire to see Socialism established much more actual than it had been before."

Yes, it has socialist aspects and nationalist aspects, it's the "third" option after all and it didn't fit into the standard dichotomy of capitalism/communism that was relevant at the time. His whole shtick was to let corporations be corporations but wall them in so that their only legal and profitable mode of operation is to uplift the German people. He controlled public art exhibits to a similar effect (See dumping all Jewish modernist garbage into freak show "degenerate art" exhibits). The state control of the "private" corporations was extensive, however unlike a communistic society the purpose was not to enslave the German public for the benefit of foreign speculators and individuals seeking to profit off cheap goods.

He had strains of sympathies for Marx at some point in life because of his affinity for the working man (yet he was a pessimist that proles could govern themselves effectively). Perhaps we're arguing semantics, regarding socialism and communism...

Orwell was a man who was skeptical of most every form of government. He clearly detested Communism (with a big C) and disliked capitalism as well.

>He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished.
