There are two major branches of Islam: Shia (i.e. Catholics) and Sunni (i.e. Protestants)

Wahhabis (Saudis, Afghans, etc.) are radical Sunnis funded by even more extreme political powers to control wealth and power, based not out of Islamic law, but personal edicts of other Wahhabi leaders enveloped in desert tribal counterculture, are also veiled as Hadiths. The staples of Jihadi principles and almost guaranteed to be the ones behind terrorist acts now falsely labeled as "Islamist" terrorism. In actuality these are acts of Arab Cultural Extremist terrorism.

I was taught that the Sunni follow the descendants of Mohamed in their desire for world conquest.
Their literal belief being that only the prophets descendants are worthy to rule the world.
