US foreign policy in the Middle East has been going on for far longer than 16 years, and everything to this point has been an attempt to correct the mistakes of the Allies post-WW2 and to deal with the innate barbarism of Middle Eastern societies. If oil had been struck in some other part of the world that was not infested with Islam, the world would be a much more peaceful place.

Yes America are the good goys, they go around fixing mistakes and defending human rights, not forcing their currency as the petrodollar and 'liberating' anyone who doesn't. the US economy depends on the US dollar being a widely used as petrodollar hence Trump's 180 on foreign policy because its either, enforce the petrodollars interests or become brazil.
