Facebook took off
Shortly after that Twitter, then Tumblr, then Instagram then Snapchat then the newer generations found their information fix via Youtube celebs. Does anyone honestly believe that won't have an impact on human behavior?

For what it's worth 4chan is one of the last bastions of the old internet, everyone's anonymous save for the occasional newfag attention whore.

The world would be very, very different if the Internet now worked like the Internet over a decade ago. There would certainly be less narcissism.

I think you nailed it with this one. A generation spent their teenage years on social media. Social attention is measured and displayed in the form of likes and comments under every narcissistic selfie you post. More attention = feeling like you're a more important/better person ("People like me!"). Attention whoring and virtue signaling are a result of this.

And it's only going to get worse. 4chan and other image boards have the right idea to shame tripfaggots. No one likes an egotistical fucker.

That said, because there appears to be no stop to the wild ride that is social media, expect it to only get worse. Naturally everyone loves ego stroking but it serves no productive benefit. And all of that time spent receiving endless praise tends to make it feel like the days pass by faster than ever. No one knows how to slow down any more.

Fuck sake, it's already June. We're almost halfway into 2017.
