Alleged Berlin suicide attacker released for lack of evidence – prosecutors
A 17-year-old Syrian boy who was detained for allegedly plotting a suicide bombing attack in Berlin was released on Wednesday after investigators failed to find concrete evidence against him, prosecutors said. The boy, who arrived in Germany as an unaccompanied refugee from the Syrian civil war, was taken into custody on Tuesday. Prosecutors found no evidence that he had been planning an atrocity after searching his phone and internet tablet. “No concrete evidence was found that he was planning a crime that endangered the state,” a spokesman for prosecutors in Potsdam said, adding that there was also no evidence that he was linked to any foreign militant organization. 2 dead in school shooting in Saudi Arabia; no children present
Two people were killed and another injured when a man opened fire inside a private school’s administration building in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday, but no students were present. The shooting was “a case of a disgruntled employee,” said Talal al-Maiman, CEO of Kingdom Holding and chairman of Kingdom Schools, which operated the school. “The administration building... witnessed this morning a shooting incident by an Arab national who was dismissed from the school four years ago on the basis of anger issues and an unstable personality,” he said. The victims were a Saudi national and a Palestinian national, he said, and the situation at the school was contained as of mid-afternoon. (Reuters)

5 staff members of Moldovan embassy in Moscow declared persona non grata
Five staff members of the Moldovan embassy in Moscow were told to leave Russia within three days, TASS reported Wednesday, citing a statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry. President Vladimir Putin will inform his Moldovan counterpart, Igor Dodon, about the consequences of expelling Russian diplomats from Chisinau during their meeting on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Wednesday. “The president will explain the possible consequences of such ill-conceived steps,” Ushakov was quoted as saying. He added that a brief meeting between the two presidents was scheduled for June 2. Moldova on May 29 declared five Russian diplomats working at the embassy in Chisinau persona non grata.

Iran cancels project for sending human into space
Iran’s semi-official ILNA news agency is reporting that the country’s space organization is canceling a project to explore sending humans into space. Iran sent a monkey into space in January 2013 and it had announced a goal of sending a person by 2018. But Wednesday’s report quotes Mohammad Homayoun Sadr, deputy head of the space organization, as saying the cost was judged to be prohibitive - an estimated $15 to $20 billion over 15 years. Iran has long held the goal of developing a space program, generating unease among the US and other countries concerned about Tehran’s ballistic missile programs. (AP)

Merkel says expects Britain to remain a partner post-Brexit
Germany will approach negotiations on Britain’s departure from the EU on the understanding that the country will continue to be a partner, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday. “We will conduct departure negotiations in the spirit of Britain remaining a good partner,” she said in the southern city of Nuremberg. “But we must also look to things that strengthen the EU, and not be focused exclusively on EU exit talks.” British Prime Minister Theresa May said earlier this week that Britain would leave the EU without an agreement if it was unable to achieve a satisfactory agreement with the bloc. Turkey says US arming of Syrian Kurdish militia ‘extremely dangerous’
Turkey Tuesday said the US arming of a Kurdish militia force deemed a terror group by Ankara was “extremely dangerous.” Such steps are “dangerous for Syria’s unity and territorial integrity,” Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, after the US began providing small arms to the Kurdish fighters. “If we are looking for stability in Syria, we should row back from those mistakes,” he told a press conference with Slovenian counterpart Karl Erjavec. The Pentagon Tuesday said it had begun to transfer small arms and vehicles to the Kurdish elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish-Syrian Arab alliance fighting Islamic State and containing Kurdish Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) fighters. Israeli rule ‘key cause’ of Palestinian hardship – UN
Fifty years after Israel occupied the Palestinian territories, its policies in the West Bank and Gaza are at the root of Palestinian hardship, the UN said Wednesday. “Occupation policies and practices remain the key cause of humanitarian needs in the occupied Palestinian territories,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a report. West Bank and Gaza residents suffer from a lack of basic security, it said, adding that the split between president Mahmud Abbas’s West Bank-based administration and the rival Islamist movement Hamas in Gaza also restricts humanitarian work. Philippines president Duterte says he ‘will not talk to terrorists’
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said on Wednesday he would not talk to Muslim rebels who are fighting the military and occupying parts of a southern city, and that he was determined to keep the Islamic State group out of the country. Duterte’s latest remarks on the crisis in Marawi City is a change in stance from last week, when he urged Maute militants to talk with him. “I will not talk to the terrorists,” he said in a speech to the military in Davao City on Wednesday. Outraged by what he believes is insincerity towards a peace process he has started with communist rebels fighting a separate, long-running conflict, Duterte said its exiled leadership would be arrested if they came back to the Philippines. He has previously invited them to return home and even offered them government posts. (Reuters)

Turkey won’t extradite suspects wanted by West unless Gulenists extradited – Erdogan
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Western countries to extradite members of Fethullah Gulen’s movement who have sought asylum, Hurriyet Daily News reported. He avoided naming these countries, while noting that trials into the July 2016 coup plotters had begun in Ankara and Istanbul. Gulen, who has lived in self-imposed exile in the US since 1999, denies any involvement in the failed July 15 coup. “I am calling out to the world: If you do not help us in extraditing [these people], you should know that you won’t be able to get those people you request from us in the future,” Erdogan told members of parliament.

Thousands rally in Morocco for release of protest leader
Several thousand people took to the streets in Morocco after dark Tuesday to demand the release of the leader of months of protests in the neglected northern Rif region. It has been shaken by social unrest since the death in October of fishmonger Mouhcine Fikri, 31, who was crushed in a rubbish truck in the fishing port of Al-Hoceima as he protested against the seizure of swordfish caught out of season. Nasser Zefzafi, who has emerged as the head of the grassroots Popular Movement, was arrested Monday. Demonstrators came out near the center of Al-Hoceima for a fifth straight night at around 10pm, after the breaking of the daytime fast observed by Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan. Police attempted to disperse the protest, but pulled back following a tense but non-violent standoff with the demonstrators. (AFP)

Macedonia’s new PM vows to pursue economic reform, EU & NATO membership
Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev vowed on Tuesday to step up economic reforms and pledged to speed up the country’s bid to join the EU and NATO, as he presented the program of his new cabinet in parliament. Macedonia has been without a functional government since 2015, after a wiretapping scandal brought down the previous administration. Zaev’s Social Democrats have now formed a coalition with parties representing the country’s ethnic Albanians. “Our goal is opening membership talks with the EU… and NATO membership as soon as possible,” Zaev told parliament. It is expected to approve the new cabinet on Wednesday. (Reuters)

Still not possible to open Incirlik base to Germany - Turkey minister
Turkey’s foreign minister said on Tuesday it is not possible to allow German lawmakers to visit troops stationed at Turkey’s Incirlik air base now, although Ankara may reconsider if it sees “positive steps” from Berlin. “We see that Germany supports everything that is against Turkey,” Mevlut Cavusoglu told a news conference in Ankara. “Under these circumstances it is not possible for us to open Incirlik to German lawmakers right now… If they take positive steps in the future we can reconsider.” Turkey has prevented German lawmakers from visiting the roughly 250 troops stationed at Incirlik as part of the US-led coalition against Islamic State, saying that Berlin needs to improve its attitude first. After a year’s delay, Dutch approve Ukraine treaty
The Dutch senate on Tuesday approved a European Union “association agreement” with Ukraine, a final hurdle to the treaty. It did so following amendments made at the EU level to take into consideration the Dutch referendum vote last year against the agreement. The agreement, a treaty, had already been negotiated and approved by all EU governments and by Ukraine in 2014, and had even partially gone into effect pending ratification when it was abruptly rejected by Dutch voters in a snap referendum held in April 2016. The Dutch vote was as much a rebuke to Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the EU as a rejection of the treaty, which focuses mostly on trade ties. (Reuters)

well kind, I did not read the it though ... I was laughing at that but they did add some amendments

>"Today's vote in the Dutch Senate sends an important signal from the Netherlands and the entire European Union to our Ukrainian friends: Ukraine's place is in Europe. Ukraine's future lies with Europe," said EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

The Dutch vote was as much a rebuke to Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the European Union as a rejection of the treaty, which focuses mostly on trade ties.

But Rutte and the European Union diplomats were forced to renegotiate parts of the treaty in order to render it palatable to Dutch parliament or risk seeing it derailed, since it cannot be ratified without support from all European Union legislatures.

>Ultimately the treaty was amended to underline it does not make Ukraine a candidate for EU membership, does not entitle Kiev to financial aid or military assistance from the bloc, and does not give Ukrainians the right to live and work in EU member states.

The amended version passed Dutch parliament in March, and the Senate approved it Monday, both by comfortable margins.

Yeah, you're right, it wouldn't make sense due to the expenses and tests already been performed, so the (now obvious) thing is RuMoD indeed decided to strike from afar, without escalating by putting RuAF close to US installations.

Shit's escalating lads.
>Western-backed Syrian rebels said on Wednesday that Russian jets attacked them as they tried to advance against Iran-backed militias in a region of Syria's southeastern desert.

They said six jets bombed their positions as they moved towards Zaza checkpoint near Sabaa Biyar, a small town near the Damascus-Baghdad highway and the borders with Iraq and Jordan.

They identified them as Russian because they flew in formation and at higher altitude than Syrian jets.

"A sortie of Russian jets bombed us to repel our advance after we broke the first lines of defence of the Iranian militia and took over advanced positions near the Zaza checkpoint," Saad al Haj, a spokesman for Jaish Osoud al-Sharqiya, one of the main groups in the area told Reuters.

The southeast of the Syrian desert, known as the Badia, has become an important front in Syria's civil war between President Bashar al-Assad, backed by Iran and Shi'ite militias, and rebels seeking to oust him.

They are competing to capture land held by Islamic State, which is retreating as it comes under intense attack in Iraq and along Syria's Euphrates basin.

Haj said none of their fighters were killed. Another FSA official, Said Seif from the Ahmed Abdo Martyrs group, also said Russian planes hit the rebels when they began storming militia defences.

The army and allied militias captured Zaza checkpoint and Sabaa Biyar this month to stop Western backed Free Syria Army groups taking strategic ground vacated by Islamic State.

Jets from a U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State hit pro-government Iran-backed militias on May 18 as they tried to advance south of Zaza towards Tanf, a base on the Syria-Jordan border where U.S. troops are training FSA rebels.

U.S. officials said the forces, which it described as being directed by Iran, posed a threat to U.S. troops and Syrian fighters it backs in the area.

Come now, what are the realistic chances of such a thing with Turkey existing?
>>
The militias, believed to be Shi'ites from Iraq, retreated to the area around Zaza checkpoint and the coalition has since warned them to stay about 50 km from the base.

U.S.-backed rebels took Tanf from Islamic State last year and intelligence sources say they mean to use it as a launchpad to capture Bukamal, a town on Syria's border with Iraq and an important jihadist supply route.

The coalition's presence in Tanf, on the Damascus-Baghdad highway, was also meant to stop Iran-backed groups from opening an overland route between Iraq and Syria, intelligence sources say.

Damascus has declared the Badia and Deir al-Zor priorities in its campaign to re-establish control over Syria, which has been shattered by six years of war that have killed hundreds of thousands of people.

It would appear so. It was only just today that I hear reports the Kurds were forming plans to combat Iranian influence in Syria. This comes after the Syrian government tried to capture Al Tanf, which would give Syria a land route to Iran through Baghdad, meaning Iran could send reinforcements, equipment, aid etc directly through land. If this is true, the conflict could be about to completely change.

Yep, seems like it. They don't want to get surrounded. Don't forget, the Kurds aren't only approaching from the north, they're also approaching from the west, on the other side of the Euphrates, so Raqqa will soon be surrounded. Knowing that Raqqa will definitively fall, and given the fact that they pulled out of Tabqah, and have apparently already pulled out of Maskanah, it seems likely a large amount will just go to Deir ez-Zor, where they have a stronger position (although I wouldn't be surprised if some amount of ISIS militants stay to battle it out to the end).

They let them use US arms and equipment against them but I doubt they'll ever directly fight them unless actual US personnel attacked. Fighting the PMUs would turn Iraq into a shit shower of spectacular proportions and fuck up US operations there so I doubt they'd go that far. They'll do whatever they can without actually fighting them, same as with the rebshits against the SAA. But they'll back out of direct conflict.

They're going to get cucked with the SDF just as they were with the FSA/MaT.

together with apparent Lavrov's informations that SDF is leaving a corridor for ISIS to leave Raqqa, am i the only one who got the feeling literally every other faction joined together against assad? ISIS isnt defending Raqqa but leaving it, SDF trying to cut off TIgers at Tabqa, FSA only standing up to SAA in the south.

Its, like, not really that they "joined forces" but are letting each other go easily, so they dont get exhausted for ant-SAA fights. Something is really fishy down there
