It doesn't take much time to grow tomatoes. Or a number of common things.
Compared to the GMO, tasteless, overpriced crap you get at the grocery store, it's worth it.

We don't have a garden this year, which we both deeply regret. A majority of the available produce comes from Mexico (grown in filth) or California (Fukushima pollution). Washington apples (Hanford) Not to mention chemical poisons. (This shit builds up in your liver. It never goes away.)

Not to mention the things they don't even have (turnips, patty pan squash, anything exotic or remotely resembling variety.

Growing your own fruits and vegetables is a skill everybody needs. You don't just stick some seeds in the ground/ a pot and they grow.
Whether TSHTF or not, it's not a bad idea. It might mean the difference in whether you/ your family eats or not and it definitely improves the quality of your meals.

In Denmark tomatoes are probably harder to grow than in much of the US. We still had plentiful cherry tomato plants on our deck every summer. My aunt in Virginia had an insane tomato garden will all different varieties/colors. It was never difficult or expensive for her to grow.

I use nets to catch fish a few times a week. Gives me more fish then i can eat during that week.
I have raspberry, strawberries, plums, Apples, pears, rhubarb, blackcurrant. Some of the plants are over 70 years old. I remove some weeds early season and literally the only thing more i have to do is harvest.
Garlic is the easiest plant tho, just let some old pieces sprout in your fridge and put it in the soil. They stay green even during a cold Norwegian winter. I only use the green stuff and not the root at all. Much better taste.

i even had a crack at a giant pumpkin a few years ago for shits and giggles. i managed something the size of a small beach ball. 1 fucking plant laid out over 1/8 of an acre, fully trained monster...

i also love growing papaya, this plant is a fucking weed and give enough attention can grow from seed to over 2 metres in a year.

I just bought a few tomato plants to grow on my balcony, going to plant them tomorrow. Home grown tomatoes actually have taste, unlike the crap you buy at the grocery store. You can actually eat them like an apple, they taste fucking amazing.
