There's really no being prepared. Have at least one gun for every member of your family, have a month or two of food, and have a stockpile of items you can trade: lighters, liquor, cigarettes, etc. Beyond that all you can do is try to learn a few skills that will carry you through the worst of it. We can try to break down the fall of American influence, you have to look back at the root causes.

1. 9/11
- Massive financial impact
- Created fear
- Created a massive influx of 24/hr news

2. War in Iraq
- Massive financial impact
- Fed on fear
- Maintained the 24/hr news monopolies
- Put comedians (Daily Show) in the main stream
- Further created a distrust between people and the Government (they blatantly lied about WMD's)

I think this ultimately created the major headlines we are seeing today

A. Terrorism
Destabilizing the middle east and displacing millions of people creating the migrant influx and increase in terrorism.

B. Media
24/hr news has created a monopoly on information, combined with Cable companies. They do not want to give up power, they are forced to create crisis after crisis to maintain viewership. If everything was OK, they would fade and they can't have that.

C. Government
People lost trust in the general role of the federal government. Everything they do is a conspiracy, everything they say is a lie. This is a big problem, not only is the Government actually full of career politicians that take advantage of the system keep themselves, their family and friends rich, but the endless unsupported wars have created a dislike for establishment politicians. Unfortunately, since every politician in this generation was basically raised to be a politician, draining the swap would just leave an empty field. There's no one available to replace them.

D. Social Justice
This is a complex one, but I think it's related to the War in Iraq also. I think being critical of the government role in Iraq became socially acceptable, and was eventually (probably early 2010's) turned into a full anti-American message.
