Southern Slesvig has had a small German minority on the Holsten border since like the 11th century. However it didn't get its "German" majority until like 1900, and it got it through forceful suppression of Danish national identity and language after the war of 1864. Danes in much of Slesvig where forced to become cultural Germans, hence the plebiscite border we got after WWI and still see today.
Holsten and Lauenborg were always German majority, we don't want them back... Well maybe Femern, but only after the Germans have paid for half of the upcoming tunnel.

Schleswig is just a Germanization of Slesvig, the name of the duchy and the city it is named after.
It was the Duchy of Sonderjylland (try claiming that is German, protip: you can't) until the 13th century when it adopted its new name from its ducal capital. And the city Slesvig was founded as a viking town and became the seat of the first Danish bishop.

If spelling is any indication of ownership, Germany is now entirely Danish because on my map it is "Tyskland" and that is a Danish spelling.
