Mussolini did that and the Italians believed that, but as always Fascist ideas were removed by the allies no matter if they were based on the truth. They also never Claim Celtic,Greek or Germanic heritage just like the rest of europe. Just look at Italians in Germany, they often just behave like if they were roman-catholic Turks. I am italian, but I have blue eyes, extremely fair skin with some freckles and blonde/reddish hair. I think Italy can claim cultural descendence from the romans, but not genetical. If you go and take a look the vast majourity of italian population is like the rest of europe if you eliminate the south. The reason being that at the end of the roman empire native italian population was slaughtered and substituted throughout the centuries with german/northern european people(see pic for reference).

Nah, Italians (and French) are the only immigrants that seem to settle fine here. I have a few Italian immigrant bros and they quickly embrace Swiss culture and identity, some going as far as completely abandoning all attachment to Italy

The Romans were definitely like modern day Italians. I know because only Italians would come up with something as cool as a gladiator arena like the Coliseum.

Italians are cool in general but a lot of them come off as too snobby sometimes. I guess it makes sense when you were once the seat of a mighty ancient empire.

Answer to both, the graph is different from yours, it just highlights difference in population size. I just mean that if you look at modern day italy, difference with ancient representation of romans is stark (excluding south), and you are much more likely to find widely european features in general population.
