Yeah, literally no one cares about "identity" any more. The private sector just hires architect who will make everything out of steel and glass because it's "the thing" now, and the government either doesn't have the money or is spending it on something that will actually keep the ruling party in power. My cousin is an architect and he hates his job to death because he'll never get to build something he'd like to see built

Is that wood on the Russian buildings?
That's an arson case begging to happen.
Europe still retains buildings such as that. Hell I see newer architecture here that has such style.
Asia I have no idea. Although from history, I could say blatantly that traditional craft would be extremely up-market and again, arson case.
South America I suppose Cuba has that market still but they're too busy huffing the paint to make anything vibrant with it.
Not saying 'muh modern architecutre' is superior craftsmanship, I'm not in the trade. But, as such you'll still find botched minimalism and regressive slot-skyscrapers because a temple in the metropolitan area will get greenlit for graffiti, or tourism.
And god forbid that anything not be just business.

Man-hours are much more expensive today than they were before, meaning we prefer to use modern low-maintenance materials and modern construction techniques with few decorations.
>>127701402
Well though I do admire traditional architecture and the beauty that resides with it, I can't ignore why buildings are being built the same way with the same drab, flat style: it's practical. The reason we build these flat boring skyscrapers with lots of windows is because they're cost effective to build, don't require as much time as a stone ediface or more stylised works and from the inside large windows offer great views. Now this does lead to some not so good trade offs as even the strongest windows can shatter unlesss you make them out of something retarded thick, and so must be replaced at some point. People are building high rises and skycrapers not to build something beautiful that will also have practical use as office space but are simply building maximized office space for use. Long term these buildings have to redone, have the metal and plastic sheeting on the exterior replaced with the windows every couple decades whereas more traditional buildings, though don't offer large windows usually, require less maintenance even over a century or two. If you want a good thought experiment, examine your local buildings and ask, if everyone were to just up and vanish, what would be left standing in two or three centuries? The modern buildings of mostly glass would eventually collapse after water gets in, after all the glass will shatter or break over time. But those with stone edifice and smaller windows would hold up for at least a century before the elements destroys it internally. It's unfortunate that we've gone the other route but what can we do I guess.

One of my favourite buildings will always be the Customs House. The dome on the top is copper, and when ships sailed up the river to the port they'd be able to spot the Customs House easily from the ship so they could dock to pay their duties and so on.
Now it's owned by the University, and it's a venue for weddings and such things.

The problems are multiple, really. It's clearly a lot cheaper to mass manufacture synthetic materials to build houses/buildings than to carve intricate wood and stone to build with. Their would have to be billions of dollars of investment into making old architectural styles just as good as modern ones in turns of safety (earthquake proof etc). Older buildings may still be standing but that is with a hell of a lot of maintenance, more so than more modern buildings (which again would have to be researched to diminish). People also just don't give a fuck, so where is the market?

No one's saying we should build stuff out of wood, but even with modern materials you can still get a nice look and details. A lot of the carvings are plaster, and I'm pretty sure they can be mass produced. The Colloseum was built out of cement and lime stone and still looks great, and is still standing.

Mass produced doesn't mean it's any less better, I don't know why you'd think that. And it's not soulless because it's still designed by an artist, just using a computer program instead of manual work.
>The houses of parliament are being held together with duct tape and chewing gum
That one example doesn't mean shit, amybe they would rather pocket the money than spend it on maintanance. I actually heard glass buildings are much higher maintanance.
>I really don't think ENOUGH people care.
I'm pretty sure 80+% of people do care, but what are they gonna do about it? And building nice building wouldn't actually be that much more expensive, especially if you consider how much is already being spent of some of the moren crap. Yah, older buildings require some plater for the facade, but I boubt it costs more than an abomination like pic related.

I am also looking to get a nice stream to build a mill, a large wooded area, and some Meadows. It'd be neat to eventually build more houses and rent them out to tourists or interested people. I'm just planning the one thus far though

Growth =/= stability
We are in a period of unsustainable growth and we have to shit out as many factory apartments and houses as possible. If everyone wasn't shipping in 1000's of refugees or trying to adapt to the newest technology then we could build something original. Even new buildings today are terrible because they don't take into account half the shit the needs to be updated. If these architects were smart they'd setup an efficient system to install cabling and wiring. Same with city planners, it's fucking retarded that we have to dig up the fucking roads to get anything done.

>>127714955
there are plenty of solutions to this. for example, you can use facades of stone and other traditional materials on the exterior to both cut down drastically on weight and substructure stress, and also allow room in the walls for the much needed insulation at higher altitudes. As for wind, the issue is not much different from the glass versions you speak of. It would just depend on the shape and aerodynamic design of each building.

using latest technology does not imply the same stylistic choices. the current post modern "slick" futuristic style is a mind parasite. so, no contemporary architect attempts designs that respect or involve the context of the country. they just want to stand out or be slick. in this regard, i can say the japanese are much more creative and respectful of their own culture and materiales. western architecture is not, its a shit. have you been to london? lmao its a bunch of egg shaped and dick shaped buildings alongside beautiful classic stuff. its pathetic

You won't be shocked to know that one of the most prominent kikes in deconstructivism, Peter (((Eisenman))), is the same guy who built the holocaust monument (the one that is just a bunch of stone rectangles) on the old grounds of the Reich Chancellery. Other notable deconstructivists include: Frank Gehry (Born Frank Owen Goldberg), Daniel Libeskind (Polish Jew), and Rem Koolhaas (Mother's name Roosenburg). Purely a coincidence surely.
