Society does not need a reset, humankind needs a reset. A return to a type of hunter/gatherer/farmer society where if you were a greedy cunt you would be caste out of the tribe. Not to chuck away all our technology and such, but this is the type of social structure modern humans have lived in for 99% of its history. Cities are unnatural, unplanned and have brought more misery. A large portion of society can now just "live" and try to find trivial things to keep themselves busy with.

Slowly but surely the tribes separated into two social classes, the Haves, and the Have-Nots. Obviously the haves dictated everything that happened, started foreclosing on farms and taking their tribesmen and families as slaves to pay off their debts which could not normally be paid. What is desired and valued by mankind has flipped on its head the past 200+ years. Nothing can flip it back short of a great awakening, but that won't happen due to how the masses have already accepted individualism, but at the same time are so interconnected that they may be socially ostracized for thinking against the pack (our instincts working against us now).

This society will not last however, the formula is brand new and on a historical scale is showing signs of collapse extremely quickly. How we rebuild society afterwards is what matters. This follows the concept of cyclic history in some ways, but I firmly believe we have never strayed so far from our normal moral state as we have today. This is not "Le End is NEAR" mumbo jumbo, it's just a clear cut observation. Being calm and hoping for the best makes things easier, but it doesn't change the reality of where we're heading.

With Africa's, and the world at large's current population mostly being non food producers, they do not have the knowledge to "live off the land" or even farm. Areas that are agriculturally productivie will be the targets of this population until food runs out and they themselves die. The only areas that will be unaffected are those with very little food yield that require advance knowledge and expertise to survive in. Remote, semi arid or semi tundra areas.
