Animal behavior is vastly different in captivity. Yes even with rodents. Also can't be extrapolated directly to humans, even from chimps or any other primates.
>>
Because you're not autistic enough to feel energized by the efficiency of living in a shoe box in a commieblock.

Why not?

The Calhoun experiment is very reminiscent of urban life to me.

I find it enthralling, educational and unique. Happiness isn't hard to find, being surrounded by millions of people. Pic related, view from my condom

Feeling like a captive doesn't make you a captive. Unless you wrote that from an actual prison, you're not in captivity. Literally buy a plane ticket and go somewhere.

Cities have this amazing ability to bring forth the existentialism lurking just beneath the surface. Walking through the night market, or down the red light district, or through the city centre with its restaurants full of echoes of laughter reminds you of the fleeting, meaningless nature of existence.

Living in rural areas is about exhausting physical work and distraction, and for those who can't stay distracted it's meth and crime. In the city you're constantly surrounded by the culmination of 50,000 years of human endeavor and despite the neon and the noise and the wonder of it all, none of it is enough to keep the existentialism at bay. You exist but you have no purpose, especially if you're an office drone. You exist, but you float through the day and into the night and the pointlessness of it all blurs into one memory until you can barely remember what day it is or what you did yesterday or what it means to be a human with a defined purpose.

Most people can't or won't deal with the concepts and feelings that Nietzsche, Sarte and Camus posited. So they fall into depression or distraction or drunkenness or anything to keep the meaninglessness at bay. But the city constantly serves as a reminder of it. That's why city life is depressing. Because it reminds you that life is depressing and ultimately pointless.

I don't know, but its extremely alienating and strange. Don't get me wrong, rural life is pretty shit too, and maybe I'm just in the wrong city, but god I hate the people around me so much

Small cities and outlying suburb/rural are the best in my experience. Benefits of both and plenty of flexibility for whether you prefer city life or innawoods.

the problem arises when the population of the mice became more than their housing could comfortably hold. Cities are ever expanding. Youre also implying that just by being near too many others causes violence which just isnt true. its dishonest to use this as an accurate comparison to humans.
>>
Because people were not meant to live with a million other souls, we were meant to be tribal apes, and when you increase the size of the population it makes everyone retreat to their hobbit holes and become recluses, after a certain point, the more people, the more lonely you will become because it's impossible to make social connections. On top of that most of the jobs people have in cities are useless bullshit, so no one is really living much of a fulfilled life there. On top of that everyone is a stranger so you're constantly in protect yourself mode, rather than being social which is how we evolved.

FiDi fag here.after a weekend of drinking I am as depressed as ever. tomorrow will head back to the office which is walking distance from where I live and churn on some more. I went on a date with this posh chinese/american girl and we kissed but it turns out she didn't like me.

in that particular experiment there could've been many more hundreds of mice before the resources were depleted, their housing could comfortably hold many more mice, what stopped them was other mice.
