Is it really a "spook" if it helps you, though? The reason why private property works as a concept is that it's mutual, so while you can't take other people's property they can't take yours either. And if someone breaks this social contract, the owner of the property can use force (either his own or the state's) to get it back.
I don't see how getting rid of this concept would benefit anyone other than a criminal.
