Never been to mainland Greece but went to Crete when little with the family. Walking around one day asked some local family for directions and they invited us into their house and let us join in their big dinner they were having for one of their kid's birthdays (they had about 8 kids).

Constantinople is not in Asia, dumbass. The Asian part came much later. Byzantium was a Megarian colony wholly in Europe. Chalcedon was opposite of it, and it just ended up being included in Constantinople when the city expanded.

As for Asia Minor, yes, it is *a* Greek homeland. Or was, until you ended over 3000 years of Greek presence in 1922. Even before the Trojan War, part of the Asia Minor coast was home to the Greeks. By the time the Delian League was founded, it had become fully Greek, and has been for 2600 years.

Getting rid of public schools would seriously fuck the national sentiment up. Syriza is trying to destroy schooling enough as it is, by internationalizing History education and lowering Ancient Greek classes standards. A lot of things need to change in terms of exams, but schooling needs to remain public in principle.

We need to lower entrance in public Universities though. Too many manage to get in Engineering and Medical degrees and that results in educated people leaving the country for Europe. There's a massive brain drain going on currently. As counterweight, private Universities need to be introduced. Could support the general Balkan region and make a profit while we're at it, as well as introduce a stronger academical culture in Greece. As it is, Greeks have to leave Greece to conduct proper research on their fields.
