I once even got a guest lecturer in a cultural anthropology class who was a stereotypical bulldyke feminist holding a talk about gender. Normally that means shit like "this tribe has these rules for men/women with this underlying belief system". Example: One of my closest friends is doing a PhD on employability WITHOUT ANY DATA. The original plan was to work out a framework for emplouability around Bourdieu's philosophy and do data analysis starting from that framework. After two years of philobabble and no publications, they decided the framework does not fit the data: solution the data must go. It is a purely conceptual PhD with no data-based hypothesis checking and apparently this is a-okay in the social sciences.

It is astounding that non-empirical research is accepted in social sciences. Than it turns into pure ideology without any basis in reality.

I don't think that research would be accepted at my university. But like I said, there are no checks on avoiding researcher bias, with the system just kind of assuming that researchers are there for the science, not the ideology. And that might work for Chemistry or something (though less and less, as I'm sure there's already a Feminist Chemistry class in the US somewhere) but the way the functioning of the human mind is researched leaves a lot of room for bias and error. Nevertheless, the field is incredibly valuable, and I hate how it's being dragged down by smallminded ideologues who think it's better to produce propaganda than actual research.
