Look at Toronto for example. In 2005 they banned pitbulls because they were responsible for 80% of dog bites but in the 12 years since then the number of dog bites has increased.

Now German Shepherds are responsible for the most dog bites there with labrador retrievers being number two on the list. Any dog, even the labrador that's praised for being the most gentle, can be aggressive in the wrong hands. You can take away pitbulls but there will still be just as many shitty owners.

Well it's true, not all pit bulls do that. My family had several pit bulls when I was growing up and they had never attacked anyone or misbehaved. We had them since they were puppies though, they were conditioned to be non-violent from the start and they were non-violent their entire lives. I was alone with the all the time when I was a little kid, one would sleep at the edge of my bed. We had a cat and the pit bulls would chill with the cat and were completely friendly with each other. They died without a single incident.

Am I saying that pit bulls aren't more aggressive than other dogs? No, that much is a fact but all I'm saying that if you have one from birth then it's entirely possible to raise them away from that. Most people aren't equipped to do that though or worse they adopt ones from other families or ones that have been through some shit.

I would never adopt an adult pit bull or worse a pit bull that's been abused or has been through some shit. Once they're grown up it's extremely difficult to ween that behavior away or to fix those scars, at that point it's just lost. I just hate people who don't know how to handle dogs ruining it for everybody else.

My dad has 3 American staffordshire, and he NEVER trained them. They will answer to very simple orders (stop, come, no), and that's it.

They're somewhat aggressive towarda other dogs, but that's probably normal and there's not much one can do about it. Around strangers they're very chill, I've only seen one of them (a female) barking at a stranger, but she was rapisly scolded for that.

Should I be scared when I'm around them? They've known me since they were puppies, but since I'm not living with them anymore I don't know if I'm still supposed to be authoritarian woth them, and if I'll risk anything by doing so. If one of them attacks me, I'm dead: I'm sure of it.
