I speak Spanish better than a lot of immigrants speak English and I took German in high school. I also know a lot of Mexicans pretend to not understand a lot more than they really do. By double-labeling everything all we're doing is giving them excuses to not become fluent or learn it at all.

The reality of the situation is a very large portion of Mexican 'immigrants' have no intention of immigrating; they come for a few years or a decade or two, siphon money out of the country, and leave. Having Spanish as an "unofficial language" just encourages this behavior.
