I've been in HVAC for 14 years and I periodically teach classes for the Union. When I went through it was 95% white and 5% nogs. Look at the hurdles a young person faces to actually make something of themselves in life. The real way forward (discounting literal backbreaking labor with low payoff) is through University. Something that most everyone is going to have to incur a large amount of debt to pursue. Most fields are horribly saturated as well. When more people own businesses and make more money, the amount paid to an employee will also raise to encourage people to work said jobs rather than to start a competing business. College was a fucking meme I graduated a month ago with a STEM degree from a nice uni and have applied to 100 plus places this past semester and have gotten turned down for the last 3 interviews I went for because I didn't have enough experience. Just got turned down from a IT help position that only paid 35k when I have a fucking IT background because the owner of the company would rather hire a kid with a meme marketing degree because he was his uber driver one night. Literally about to start lying about my race on applications to at least get an interview.

It's 100% about who you know unless your a minority hire to fill a diversity quota, just being black or a woman automatically puts your resume to the top in STEM. Every time I ask one of my classmates or cousins how they got their first job it's always "Oh so and so worked there and got me an interview".
