There is a long and bloody history of Catholics vs Protestants. There was nothing like the 30 years war. Pagans see each other's gods as valid. Each people has a different set of Gods that reflect their ethnic group. Germanic Gods for Germanics, Latin for Latin, Celt for Celt, etc. There is also an overaching Indo-European religion common in Europe.

In a lot of these countries it actually IS losing at the moment. in China for example, Christianity is growing at fast rates. Also India has given up half of it's country to Islam (Pakistan).

There was also a theory that in order to maintain a polytheist society, you would need a population with a very high IQ, which would explain Japan.
