A big thing you neglect is that a lot of formulas in imperial require fudge factors to account for unit magnitude differences you don't have to deal with in metric because the powers of ten just propagate right through.

The greatest reason that we do not use Metric for everything is that most materials manufactured in the US are based on Imperial units. Good luck changing that any time soon. Want a 10mm plate? It has to be ground from 1/2" which is extra $$$.
