In my city, the most popular nightlife hotspots and live music venues are all closing. There are protest movements that have sprung up to try and keep these places open and "keep the cultural identity of the city".

When I look at the photos from these marches and protests the people are all in their late 20's to early forties.

It really struck me how the subversive rock/metal live music scene is now dead. No youngster wants a part of it.

I understand why people aren't going out in many cases, but it also shows the problem with our generation.

People complain about cost, but never save. They'll squander their money on useless trinkets and then complain when they can't eat until their next paycheck, which they do the same with.

They don't get the same boosts of dopamine from real life as they do video games, or checking their facebooks for new comments.

It's all right there in front of people, but rather than unhooking from it all, they wallow in it.

That's why going out sucks. They can't afford it, by choice, and when they do go out, they hate it because it isn't instant gratification and seems like work to them. Literally no one my age goes out to "have a few drinks at a bar". That's the domain of senior citizens. People here don't even start going out til about 10 p.m. Then they rack lines and get shitfaced to 12 p.m. the next day.

Most people just want to chill at home with their friends and save money right now. Blame the economy.

I live in a studio and loose my shit from time to time and found the perfect way to go out and party.

How it used to be,
>throw $20 in the tank
>pick up $15 of pregame booze plus some extra to shoot in the bathroom
>parking for $15
>pay $20 for two cover charges
>get loose and spend another $16 at the bar for two of the cheapest beer they sell
>regret
>even more loose so i buy one more $8 beer
>dance
>waste a whole pack of $7 smokes because I'm hammered and caving in to bummers.
>leave and spend another $10 on whatever fast food is open.

On top of that it's a hit or miss if you even end up having any fun but either way you feel fuckin ripped off. Forget the bars too.

Now i just find a cheap cabin. Have a few people pitch in for booze, food, gas...ect. comes out to about the same or even less of you do it right. About ten times more bang for the buck and you can actually fuckin party. Some cabins have cable and even internet so when you're done fucking around outside you can put on whatever sport you're into or stream whatever music and play drinking games into the am.
