Still that gives a stretch of <10km. He was facing down which suggests he wasn't a refloater either.
The options then are that he was picked up by a rip current (intoxicated as everyone is always) and while trying to struggle away from it he hit his head on rocks (causing the head trauma) or he was dumped/dumped himself somewhere along the Florida Current (The Florida Keys/bay area or maybe even Everglades ntl.
