It was not intel obtained by the US but by an outside source, a source that does have a say over that intel and who should have access to that intel. And if you screw your sources, then they won't work with you in the future and giving US intel a bad rep, making the country less safe. Could Trump legally leak it, yes. Was it wise, probably not.

I think we may be having more of a semantic argument than one of facts.

That the President can declassify and share whatever he wants means he can, by the definitions I would accept, never "leak" information. Any attempt to portray the sharing (wise or unwise) of information as a "leak" is to me already an attempt at a smear.

I would say that wise or unwise that as the Big Dog if the USA is sharing info (not sources and methods, that's more serious) then the USA ought to be able to tell whatever pissant ME country this intel came from to suck it. That the US has to worry about possibly upsetting a ME country suggests that the info came from one ME country in particular.
