I am not an American, but I do have a lot of sympathy for the poor white working class of the Appalachian mountains and the Rust belt. No matter how you twist it, the proposed budget is a dumpster fire. Even if you oppose Keynesian deficit spending, this budget doesn't even compute for fiscal conservatives. The arithmetic doesn't add up. If you were only concerned with producing a balanced budget, you would still have to cut military spending, entitlements and raise taxes on the wealthiest 2%. This budget reduces federal revenues while blowing a hole in the deficit through the repeal of the estate tax and a massive increase in military spending which the US simply dosen't need at this time. Concurrently, and this is senator Sanders point, is that you cut programs which mainly benefit the working classes and the poor while slashing Medicare and Medicaid - something Trump promised his own voters he wouldn't do several times in order to appeal to this base. Meals on Wheels, food stamps and Pell Grants are comparable to the old foreign aid meme. Think what you will of them, but these aren't the programs which are draining the discretionary spending of the federal government. There isn't a hint of economic nationalism in this budget. You don't force the many at the bottom to sacrifice for the few at the top which already have seen their wealth increase many times over since the financial crash. It is simply immoral and indefensible and should be critiqued as such. It has nothing to do with socialism or capitalism.

A lot of rhetoric not much substance. I don't think anyone disagrees that there should not be poor people and people should have this and that and high quality of life. However saying those things and working towards that have led US to a 20 trillion dollar debt. Welfare should only be given to those who need it, which those budget cuts will ensure. Since there is 1930's level of people on food stamps, either people on food stamps are being lazy commies or the economy is REALLY shit. You tell me which one it is. There needs to be a limit, and yes democracy almost always leads to socialism because the majority wants things to be "free" not realizing that they will just get locked to economic system that enslaves them. Now maybe that's what most humans want, slavery for safety.

i'm sure he knows that throwing money at poor people does not help poor people nor does it take them out of poverty. the stats are clear, we spend more money on entitlements than any other country, and we have more poor people than ever. its like the more money you give people "for free" the more poor people you'll find.
