She never bothered to campaign in the rust belt areas. She had no message for those people.

According to the book Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign, Bill constantly warned her about this and she didn't give a shit. Her campaign kept saying to him that California would make up for those areas. But Bill kept saying she needed to speak to those people and she didn't even want to.
